matkrenz's Fear Itself: Deadpool #1 - The Chosenest review

    I am disapointed.

Issue #1 of 3 of Fear Itself: Deadpool.

The Story: Deadpool installs some anti-Worthy security but that fails and decides to screw around with Walrus.

The Good: There seems to be some interesting set up for the next 2 issues. Bong Dazo's art is spot on for Deadpool.

The Bad: I am disapointed because CHris Hastings to me felt like a perfect writer for Deadpool, he can do absurd storie's with people taking them very seriously (in Dr.Mcninja they had to save the world by playing tennis, so yeah) but here that touch is lost. Also in Dr.Mcninja you would have a couple of pages with no punchline at the end but a couple of times you would greta ones at the end of one and it really felt like he was writing a regular comic book but here he doesn't have that and I just don't understand why. I mean Deadpool and Dr.Mcninja are characters that are similar enough taht he wouldn't have a problem writing both of them. A lot int his issue isn't made clear early on but only on the last couple of pages wich I guess Hastings is just so used to explain stuff near the end of issue's of his webcomic that he might do it here to. Also the dialogue between Deadpool and his boxes felt kinda klunky and to me Hastings works better when he is just writing about his own craziness and not comic stuff with tones of backstory. Lastly the Walrus seems like a really weak villain.

The Verdict: Very disapointing issue from Hastings who normally melds action, comedy and parody well but here it really  didn't shine, the only big saving grace is Bong Dazo's art. Don't buy this.

In a chaotic world there are many who are considered worthy.....but not in this case.  Ok this is a Fear Itself tie in...well not really. Yeah it takes place during the Fear Itself storyline, yes a power Juggernaut makes a cameo but thats it. Deadpool doesnt get involved with whats going on. Instead he simply finds a large hammer and makes it look like one of the magical ones and tricks the biggest loser (no..Im not talking about the show) of a villian and tricks him to believe they are worthy. ...

Growing pains lead to a lot of confusion. 0

Deadpool "parody" crossover tie-ins have become the norm with Marvel events, but I've never been one to purchase them. I decided to give Fear Itself: Deadpool a shot, but wasn't exactly impressed. The GoodWell, the Juggernaut, as one of the serpent's monsters, is in this issue. The BadMaybe it's because I've rarely found Deadpool funny, but this issue just seemed to fall flat with me. There were a couple nice "caption" gags that we've come to expect, but for some reason nothing really got done in ...
