Launched in September 1989, Fast Forward was the BBC's second attempt to compete with the long-running Look-In, which featured strips based on rival ITV (Independent Television) shows, following the 1985 short-lived Beeb magazine. This time round, supported by heavy TV promotion, the attempt proved more successful, and Fast Forward would outsell and ultimately outlast Look-In, finally cancelling in September 1995. Among the comic strips featured in the magazine were ones based on BBC sitcom Bread, soap Eastenders, children's show Grange Hill, and puppet children's TV presenter Gordon the Gopher, as well as imported shows broadcast by the BBC such as The Flintstones and Baywatch.
