How FANTASTIC FOUR #600 Will Change Marvel's First Family Forever [Spoilers]

The Fantastic Four has never been your typical team of superheroes. While always there to fight the supervillains of the world, they've been a family first. They're a family of adventurers. With the births of Franklin and Valeria Richards, that feeling of family continued to grow.

After a battle with the Wizard, Reed soon decided to try to make a bigger difference. Reed's idea was to "solve everything." To do this, he needed some help. Who else could help him but Reed Richards...a bunch of them...from different dimensions. The Council of Reeds had good intentions but this actually opened the door to a series of events that would lead to the end of the Fantastic Four.

Through a series of other events, one of the evil Reeds met with the Anti-Priest (who served Annihilus). When they made their move to try to bring the Annihilation Wave from the Negative Zone into the Positive Zone, that's where Johnny Storm made his sacrifice that lead to his death and the end of the Fantastic Four.

With FANTASTIC FOUR #600 here, there are some big changes happening. Be sure to check out the issue in order to avoid the massive spoilers contained.

== TEASER ==

New York City is under a surprise attack by the Kree. With this attack, Anti-Priest is concerned and contacts Annihilus. The solution is to press their own attack and to access the portal at the Baxter Building.

The situation was bad and it's about to get worse. If the Annihilation Wave comes over, obviously it will mean a lot of death. There's also the fact that while the Future Foundation (adults) and the Avengers are fighting the Kree, the kids are at the building. What are the chances of there not being any casualties there?

We know the last time there was a battle at the portal, there was a big casualty. In a moment that everyone will be talking about (and maybe already is talking about). The entire direction of the Future Foundation and Fantastic Four will change.

What is this big event? It's a revelation that some may have seen coming and others might have been dreading. (This is your final warning about spoilers...)

What will be the fallout over this? This isn't something the members of the Future Foundation would expect. Does this mean it's time to stop mourning over Johnny and bring back the Fantastic Four? (We do have the series back after all). Characters such as Reed and Ben will once again place the blame on themselves over not doing more.

That isn't all that is coming. Some days before the Kree attack, Reed and Sue had to pay Galactus a visit. Having to pay him a visit can't ever be good.

Galactus is aware of some big changes coming. He tells Reed that the world is going to be broken. He tells them about the bad things that would result from Earth being destroyed. This continues to link back to the future Galactus that was destroyed as well as some events going on in the pages of THE MIGHTY THOR.

If Reed has to use what Galactus gave him, the Marvel Universe better hope it works.

The final question is what happens to FANTASTIC FOUR # 589-599? Issues 1-11 of FF were meant to take the place (which lead up to issue #600) but with FF continuing into issue #12, the argument could be made that something is missing. Issue #600 and FF #1-11 do tell us everything that has happened in between but my gut tells me there's something more going on.

Also take a look at what's on his wrist. If you can't make out what it is, I won't spoil everything. But if you think about where he's at and who he's with, it should make sense. This brings changes to Johnny. What is he going to do with it? Will he keep it and use it or hand it over to Reed?

Explain, please.

While I haven't paid any attention to what's going on in FF other than by the headlines...reading about Reed consulting his other-dimensional selves had bad written all over it.

There are quite a few mistakes in nearly every article (in this one for example, "affect" [verb] instead of "effect" [noun], "THE MIGHT THOR" [sic], "That never can't ever be good", et al.)

Typos happen to everyone. It is to be expected when writing timely, casual, non-academic articles. Comic Vine just needs a copy editor for articles (a position for which I'd be ever so glad to receive a small salary -- heh -- serious offer, by the way!)

One could also note the irony of your comment, Namor1987; you used the possessive word your instead of the contraction for "you are", you're. ;)

Ive never been a huge fan of the Fantastic Four (I think something about Thing is annoying) but I've always thought Human Torth was cool. Glad Johnny's back and I'm glad, from the sounds of things, it was done awesomely.

Hickman has got to be the best long term comic book writer....I've just got to wonder just how much he plans out ahead of time....was this all planned from his very first issue or is he making up a lot of it as he goes?

#24 Posted by zombietag (1494 posts) - - Show Bio

shoulda waited longer

#25 Posted by The_Kid_Lantern (59 posts) - - Show Bio

I was hoping with the 'Torch coming back there'd be a chance for him to get his own mini or maxi [honestly I think he can be monthly...] because I'm not looking for him to just jump right back into the F4. Visually I can't say I'm very excited as I only picked up a few issues of F4 just before Johnny died so I know nothing about his arm and suit. He's the only reason I ever pick up F4, but this just looks like some more Marvel I can pass up at the comic shop....

This is such a cynical move. As great as this issue was, Tom Brevoort flat-out lied to us. He said this would last and that there wouldn't be a Fantastic Four on-going this year.

Then there's the missing issues, which aren't missing...technically.

#27 Posted by G-Man (32687 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Mast: It'd be sort of cool if they released them as 'missing issues' but this issue pretty much fills us in on the time in between.

Wow, couldn't even stick to his death for one year.

@EugeneSaxe:

"FOREVER" in Marvel technically means "until the next event".

Marvel in general plans things long term. It doesn't mean they can't change things

Its............ Johnny!!!

#35 Posted by carnivalofsins00 (938 posts) - - Show Bio

This was good, well written and drawn, but kind of disappointing. Especially in that Johnny's back, because, if I remember correctly, Hickman has said that he didn't plan on bringing him back in his run on the Fantastic Four.

#36 Posted by Grim (2079 posts) - - Show Bio

I glanced over this, just to confirm what I knew was happening. I'll keep up with the trades on this and read it eventually... Little disappointed he's back.

For anyone complaineing that he is back already, this was clearly the plan form the beginning and had nothing to do wtih out side events. It was also completly epic and the best character returen in a long time, I would even venture to say the best ever.

Now the problem starts that I want to know how the current FF arc ends but want to read Fantastic four as well. Guess who is going to start picking up extra shifts at work.

I really liked this issue. I dropped FF an issue or two ago and picked this up on a hunch (which was right, not that that is any type of accomplishment since it was pretty obvious). I'm really happy with the reveal in this issue. And the back story to the reveal was really great too. I'm excited to see what happens next. I really like these epic events that happen in the FF and fantastic four. Great stuff.

@cmaprice:  Heck, that bitch-slap hurt me!  I hope I spelled everything right ... or is it "speelled"?

Didn't the original Starman have a "Cosmic Rod" before everybody got to messing with it and changing it into power belts and staffs?

That spoiler image reminds me of something... 90s.

Oh, "Reboot" you got so good by the end. You nostalgia, you lose.

Also, that guy in the spoiler image's face looks a lot like Cap.

This is exactly what hickman is building up to. Going into this anniversary issue I knew what was going to happen based on a hunch and I was right. Hickman slow burn of FF reminds me alot of Morrison's Batman run: great at the beginning, than a slow burn, than it starts to pickup again.

Hickman knows what he is doing with this series and people who dropped the series, he has been building this since his first issue of F4 everything is coming into fruition. People who just decide to jump on FF, sry but if you haven't read Hickman's earlier F4 run, chances are your not gonna like it. Finally the payoff is here :)

The 7.99 price tag. Though not fun, definitely worth the price bc most of it is all story and no ads and less usless short stories (even though there are like 3 short stories I think).

#49 Posted by DATNIGGA (1189 posts) - - Show Bio

I barley pay attention to FF but when i glanced at the issue i read annihilation wave.... if there gonna realise an annihilation wave on earth its gonna take every supper powered being to help take them down.... ironically thor isnt here to help thor & hulk always misses stuff
