While 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, and now 2016’s Superman/Batman Man of Steel sequel have been making headlines (and waves) with high-profile official casting announcements, it’s been mostly quiet on Fox’s Fantastic Four front other than the usual genre rumor mill.
Scheduled to open June 19, 2015, the FF reboot by Chronicle director Josh Trank with a rewritten script by Simon Kinberg is reportedly getting close to making some noise.Variety reports Tuesday that Kinberg has finished the script rewrite and Fox plans to begin testing actors for the roles of Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman by the end of the month.
Miles Teller (26), currently getting raves notices for his work in the upcoming Whiplashopposite J. Jonah Jameson himself J. K Simmons, is rumored to be in the mix for Reed Richards, reports Variety, who also names Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington (27) andKlondike’s Richard Madden (27) as actors being considered for the role.
Kate Mara (30) and Saoirse Ronan (19) are expected to test for Susan Storm, according to Variety.
“Michael B. Jordan (26) is attached to play Johnny Storm, but he is expected to test with the actors to see which group has the best chemistry,” reports the Hollywood trade.
The ages of all the actors named seem to corroborate Fox’s reported plan to go ahead with a more Ultimate Fantastic Four-ish/younger skewing version of Marvel’s first family. Given the success Marvel Studios has had with what many fans in the comic boom community perceive as ‘faithful’ adaptations, it will be interesting to observe how a twenty-something cast along with an always-controversial race change of a iconic character will be received by fans if ‘ultimately’ made official by Fox.
Interesting choices.
