There's been a lot of discussion and wonder when it comes to the upcoming Fantastic Four film. It was quite the polarizing journey for fans, up until the trailers were released, which actually won a few people over. Now, there seems to be a bit of a change when it comes to Reed Richards' powers in the film.

Recently, on the Fantastic Four website, Reed's powers were described as being able to warp space around him, so technically, he's not actually stretching. Now, that may or may have not changed, the warping space that is.

SlashFilm got a screencap of the website, as well as a few other sites, and this is what the official Fantastic Four website said:

Since that story ran on numerous sites, the Fantastic Four website has changed, mainly the description of Reed Richard's powers. Here's the same page on the site, a few days later.

The only thing cut out is "He can warp space around him." So why is that cut out? The chances of Reed's powers actually changing from a more high concept idea of "bending space" for the film see pretty slim. Chances are, this may be a bit too high concept for non-science fiction fans to wrap their heads around. The average person doesn't really need the scientific explanation for every little thing.

That's just it though. It's actually pretty cool to see this film try to go in-depth and take a mildly scientific stance on how these super-powers actually work, aside from "cosmic rays give people powers... or kill you horribly." Maybe there's more to Reed than we know. Could his "space bending powers" be used for something other than stretching?

Another thing that was changed was the words put in bold. In the first run, "stretch his body" was highlighted, and now, "impossible forms" and "incredible lengths" are. Maybe this could be highlighting some of the fantastic things Reed will be doing in the film?

Regardless, the change is probably just to make things a little easier for people reading the site. However, it is very interesting that a single sentence was removed so quickly after other outlets picked up on it.

He only bends space, not time. I don't mind it at all. It might not be necessary, but it fits with the character and setting and allows for some speculation as to the kinds of things Reed could do. If it's based on space-bending and not biological alteration, could this Reed do the things Ultimate Reed could do? Stretch into horrific shapes and forms, like splitting his skull in half to observe two different things at different places, or spread his body across a vast surface and manifest new forms with a piece of his intelligence in them? I've always wondered whether Ultimate Reed could do those things because he's different from 616 Reed, or if he just does them because he's not concerned who he frightens, which would imply our Reed can do it too but doesn't.

Let Mr. Fantastic keep the powers he has. His body stretches, fluidity. You lose the whole fire, rock, air, water dynamic if you change it with "space warping". Plus, then you can't have a joke where someone grabs his ears & stretch them out like an elephant without his permission. Comedy gold.

Movie looks like it could be good though.

No one has paid attention to the elements dynamic for years. Like, it's there, but it's never important.

I think the black hole thing could be a good quasi-scientific explanation. I do hope that, with all the scientists in this, they do try to give an explanation for all of the powers in the film, maybe in a similar fashion to how they do it on the Flash.

I think the director did an interview recently where he said Reed's bio was poorly worded and all people really need to know is that he stretches.

if movie is based in ultimate universe then ultimate reed richards had used his power to make linked bodies like clones .

Kind of explains Sues powers as well. And they are dimension travelers so it makes sense.

His bio has not changed. It is the ultimate fantastic four bio. Not the regular marvel universe it earth1610.

I find it funny that so many people are peeved about the whole "stretching space" aspect of his powers. It's literally a slightly different way to explain his powers while keeping them exactly the same.

I hope Reed becomes the maker. Ultimate Reed is technically not even alive, his body doesn't age or decay.

i'll admit, the "bending space" idea explains a lot about his powers. and it means they don't have to re-arrange his entire biology like in the Ultimate version.

It makes sense honestly. And the movies are never 100% like the comics, and this one we already see it front and center, so really who cares?

Maybe Reed will be a bit more interesting with some new power dynamic.

I like the idea. It may not be part of Reed's typical power set but it would be an interesting addition that can lead up to some pretty cool moments in the movies and story wise. So far, Teller's Reed Richards is a pretty good combination between 616 Reed and Ultimate Reed.

I think it mostly hurts Richards if he stretches space.

If I can accept that a living being is made out of rock, someone can turn invisible, and that someone can catch on fire at will, you really don't need to get more complicated than "he can stretch".

If it looks the same does it really matter?

I think it is that. They are trying to explain it in a more scientific way while at the same time open the possibility of his powers "evolving" into something more than just stretching. (+)

Lol, people stay hating on the cast and the film in general. Give it a chance before you judge, it's not fair to those who provided this film to us.
