Sub-Mariner and Dr. Doom - You Knew it Was Coming
Last issue ended with this...
Johnny: Gosh, first Sub-Mariner and now Doctor Doom loose on Earth! What happens next?!
Reed: We'll devote our lives to tracking them down! We can do no more!
So guess who the villain of this issue is? Big surprise - both of them. Didn't see that one coming.
The issue shows us a little more of the Fantastic Four's daily life in the first few pages, which is nice. There's also an update to the Baxter Building cutaway we saw a few issues back.
Sue seems to be developing a crush on Namor in the he's-not-bad-he's-just-misunderstood, I can fix the jerk mode, which (sadly) makes her character a lot more believable.
Namor for his part, seems fairly easily manipulated by Dr. Doom for a supposedly smart, headstrong individual, but not so much that it really stretches credibility.
As with almost all Fantastic Four comics of the period, it gets worse in the latter pages - particularly when Namor & Doom's plans come to fruition (they steal the entire Baxter Building), but judged in terms of other Fantastic Four comics, I'd have to call this one above average in quality.
