    Did I Miss Something?

A couple of pages into this comic, I scratched my head and wondered if I had missed an issue prior to this one. Fantastic Four 580 was light fare, but very enjoyable. This issue thrusts you head long into a conflict through time and space with the enigmatic Nathaniel Richards at the heart of the hubbub (that man is always trouble). The issue at first is cryptic and the purpose of Nathaniel's journey is a tad on the confusing side, as is the role of Valeria and Franklin. Towards the end, however, the muddled story takes a backseat to some moments of suspense. The continuation promises some thrills in the next issue, but the abrupt transition between the last issue and this one loses it some stars in my opinion.

      Review: Fantastic Four #581 0

Nathaniel Richards travels back to Mr. Fantastic's college days to recruit all the ol' boys for a battle against his evil alternate selves in the future, all while a grown-up Valeria scares the hell out of Sue. The Good I hadn't encountered Neal Edwards' art before this comic and I have to say I was quite taken aback. He's a "total package" penciler whose work is damn close to Bryan Hitch's level (although I'm sure Neary's inks go a long way in putting the work in that direction.) I hate to use...
