Journey to the Center of the Earth

For months I'd been staring at the awesome covers. So, week before last I asked my buddy Craig behind the counter at my local comic book store what he thought of Fantastic Four. He said pretty much the same thing I saw in the reviews here. Jonathan Hickman is telling pretty good stories and Dale Eaglesham is drawing a pretty decent book. They've got a pretty good run going...except for maybe the costume designs and Reed and Johnny's more ripped look. I can get past that. A good story and good art can't get fouled up to badly by a bad costume.

    This is a good story.

It starts out with a few of the Mole Man's subterraneans popping up out of the sewer in front of the Baxter Building. Only to be hit by a truck. One of the three pops his companions head off the body and the pair head inside. They are greated by Reed and Ben. They deliver their message - "Please clear the lobby." The Mole Man makes a grand entrance and the adventure is afoot! Instead of a battle against him and his minions, the Mole Man enlists the Fantastic Four's help.

Hickman's story is tight and bright. The Mole Man presents an interesting dilema.

I'd like to quibble over how Eaglesham and Mounts handle Ben's evolution, but it works.

It'll be interesting to see how this story plays out over time. It's a nice done-in-one, with an interesting epilogue. I'm onboard for the Elemental World Tour.
