The first appearance of the Skrulls. The story is as childish as the first issue, and I'm getting the sense that all of the Stan Lee-written issues are going be that way. These early issues of Fantastic Four recall previous horror and sci-fi writers such as HG Lovecraft (more so in the first issue) and EC Comics's Weird Science from the '50s. Like A Bad Sequel 3
The first issue of Fantastic Four was outstanding. The second one... not so much. Sure, it's still distinguished by the team's interpersonal conflicts and it introduces some great Marvel villains - the shapeshifting Skrulls, but then, there is a ton of real silliness. Now, I'm not talking ordinary Silver Age silliness... I'm perfectly willing to accept things such as Reed Richard's business suit stretching when he does - things like that I'll give a pass. But in this issue, some advance members...

Skrulls from Outer Space! 0
An improvement over the previous issue (which came a whopping two months earlier!), but not by much. This time we’re introduced to the Skrulls, but much like the Ferengi fromStar Trek, their debut appearance here is off-hand and slightly silly. Despite some sketchy conclusions however, it’s still entertaining (especially the opener, which, while copied to death since, was quite a clever device by Lee) and works well to flesh out the Four a little more....
