When Not Just Any Skrull Will Do

"A Skrull Walks Among Us!" reintroduces the intergalactic threat of the shape-shifting Skrulls. After their advance party voluntarily turned themselves into cows (don't ask) last year, the Skrull Emperor thinks one 'Super Skrull' can do the job better (why these guys don't just go ahead and launch a full scale invasion is beyond me).

Imbuing one Skrull with the power of all the members of the FF, with a little extra in each case, the Super Skrull is sent to earth to defeat the Fantastic Four once and for all.

Hardly a superior issue of the comic, it's still passable. Super Skrull may be silly, both in name and in powers (why stop at just giving him the FF's powers; why not throw in the Hulk's and Spider-Man's too?) but ultimately the issue succeeds by putting the focus back on the action, which plays to both the strengths of artist Kirby, and the conception of this superhero team.

If you have both of those concepts down to a tee you have a villain that will stand the test of time such as the Joker or Ultron o...

Standing in stark contrast to last month's issue, this month sees the Fantastic Four get back into action against the Skrulls (last seen way back in issue 2) and their latest menace—The Super Skrull. Having had Doctor Doom andNamor amongst others make repeat appearances in the series, it was only a matter of time before we were treated to the resurgence of The Skrull; and it's a welcome one at that now that Doctor Doom has gotten a little stale as of late. What results is a fairly non-stop actio...
