To Be a Fallen Angel
To be a mutant vagrant and be treated like royalty? Something had to be up.
The previous six issues have finally led us here. Finally. Ariel and Chance are confronted. Finally. We see why these mutants were all recruited. Finally. The ending is interesting. Finally. I don't want to bash this series too much because there is some good to it, but it sure did take a long time to get anything accomplished. No doubt, I enjoyed Boom Boom's attempts at getting any Multiple Man attention and I enjoyed the power manipulations - those things had been fun; I just don't see why Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur had to be added to this tale. So many questionable choices.
Of the eight issues in this series, this one is by far one of the most important. It could be easy to lose sight of each character on a foreign planet (especially one as bizarre as the Coconut Grove) but the writer does this expertly. Sunspot still has honor, Boom Boom is still a brat, and the Vanisher is still a tool. The explanation of the mutant presence on the planet is satisfying, as is the surprise at the end (which had been previously hinted at in earlier issues with the subtlety of a jack hammer). This was a much better read and it took the series in a direction that made the whole series worth reading, even if it was tedious in many places.
