Bring On the Real She-Hulk Already!
A lot goes on in this first issue of Savage She-Hulks #1, some is great, some of it totally confusing. The confusing parts are due to the fact that I'm not following the, "Fall of the Hulks", storyline. I'm only interested in this book for one reason, the sensational She-Hulk, Jennifer Walters. You can imagine my disappointment when I discovered that Ms. Walters only has one panel worth of an appearance.
This issue can be judged by it's cover for the most part because it's basically dedicated to the daughter of Hulk and Thundra, Lyra. I like Lyra and I enjoyed the scenes with her and her robotic companion, Boudicca as she tries to pass of as an ordinary young woman. Unfortunately the Wizard and his usual cohorts have other things in mind by, what seems to be, duping Lyra into joining a new version of the Frightful Four. Though by tale's end it seems Lyra has plans of her own, plans that involve locating the missing She-Hulk I'm so concerned about. There's a short prelude and battle with Thundra and Lyra at the beginning where Thundra tries to desperately stay away from her daughter of the future so as not to cause a worrisome time paradox, but I can't help but think that Thundra will return to this series before its conclusion.
The art was good, the Red She-Hulk is annoying, and I was disappointed that Lyra dispatched Boudicca so quickly to prove her "loyalty" to the Wizard, but I was especially frustrated when in the last few pages the story jumped from 24 hours ahead, to now, to wait, where were we when we started -- ? Hopefully there will be more of an even flow to the time frame as things progress and we'll have a little more to do with the She-Hulk and worry less about the "Fall of the Hulks". I realize this is tie-in series, but would prefer for it to be more of a stand alone title - just sayin'.
