Prior to this issue the only exposure to Fables I had was reading the first ten issues collected in the first deluxe trade. I fell in love with the gorgeous art and Bill Willingham's superb writing which seems to be an unholy alliance of Brubaker and the Brothers Grimm. The intrigue mixed with the classic fairy tale characters was a refreshing and radical concept. Jumping on the series some 85 issues later, I am not sure what's happened prior to this as I'm still getting caught up gradually, but by opinion (which could be completely misinformed) is that this is sort of a secret origins for Rose Red. Now, I don't think an issue of Fables can really drop beneath four stars, but I wasn't enraptured with this comic because not alot happened. On the other hand, as I said, I'm a new reader to the series so I'm glad I didn't have to many twists and revelations to swallow.
