Original Excalibur

Excalibur was formed in Britain, and was composed of British super-heroes Captain Britain and Meggan as well as the X-Men's Marvel Girl, Kitty Pryde,Lockheed, Nightcrawler, and a new character Widget. This team eventually expanded to include Kylun, Feron, Cerise, Pete Wisdom, Warlock,Colossus, and Wolfsbane.

Genoshan Excalibur

The second major incarnation of Excalibur bears no connection to the original team other than its name, and was never actually referred to as Excalibur save the name of the comic book.

After the destruction of Genosha by Cassandra Nova, and the virtual elimination of its mutant population, Charles Xavier moves to Genosha to help the survivors rebuild. Charles quickly located several surviving mutants, and the first of his new team in discovering Wicked and Freakshow. The group then discovers Magneto who had been laying low on Genosha, not knowing of the attack on New York by an impostor, as well as Callisto who was going to kill Magneto. Freakshow summoned spirits of the Genoshan dead and prevented Callisto from killing Magneto.

A Magistrates ship crashing down on Genosha carried the captured bodies of both Shola Inkose and the Prime Sentinel Karima Shapandar. Shola was expelled, and Karima's body was thrown into the ocean. Despite her Sentinel nature, Charles Xavier saved her. Together, Xavier and Magneto were able to free her mind from her Prime Sentinel programming.

The team then found Broadband and Book, as well as Dark Beast. Xavier offered Dark Beast a sort of amnesty in exchange for assisting them, which McCoy accepted.

The team was in the process of restoring Genosha when the Magneto's daughter, the Scarlet Witch, went insane and destroyed the Avengers. Magneto hears her psychic cry for help and uses his power to create a wormhole and rescues his daughter. Magneto becomes reclusive and withdrawn, focused only on his daughter. Xavier and Magneto continue to try to help Wanda, who remains in stasis. These are some of the main events leading up to the House of M.

After M-Day the team is effectively gone. While many of the members remained on Genosha, they are de-powered and Xavier is nowhere to be found. Magneto remains on the island, but also being de-powered is more depressed and withdrawn than ever. Quicksilver brings the Inhumans' Terrigen Mists to the island, and causes even more damage by granting powers back to several of these mutants to a level that they are completely unable to control rendering Unus dead by his own force field, Freakshow unable to return to human form, Callisto in a coma by the level of which her senses are heightened, and Wicked no longer in control of the energies of the dead but instead haunted by them.

Members of the Genoshan Excalibur include: Charles Xavier, Magneto, Callisto, Karima Shapandar, Shola, Wicked, Freakshow, Dark Beast, Broadband, and Book.

New Excalibur

After M-Day, several of the X-Men joined Psylocke in visiting England to see how Captain Britain was faring. Although he was happy to see her, their reunion was cut short by the news that Dazzler was attacked and was presumed dead. Upon arrival the group was able to revive her and quickly learned that she was attacked by a group of original X-Men dopplegangers. They learned that these X-Men were from another dimension, and the evil Charles Xavier's mind had been taken over by that dimension's Shadow King. Psylocke was able to help defeat the shadow king, and the Dark X-Men are still in custody.

The team was brought back in time by the original Black Night in order to save King Arthur's Camelot. With the assistance of Excalibur, Merlin was able to defeat a pack of dragons that threatened Camelot's existence.

After nearly being beaten by the Wrecking Crew, Juggernaut is feeling less powerful than ever. In an attempt to regain some of his former glory, Juggernaut set out for the Temple of Cyttorak to reclaim the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, the source of his power as the Juggernaut. The rest of Excalibur followed behind. Closing in on the temple, the team had to deal with their feelings for each other as Cyttorak's power brought out negative emotions between them. This included Nocturne confronting Dazzler about the way she treated the Juggernaut, revealing Nocturne's feelings for the Juggernaut. After battling his inner demons, Juggernaut and the rest of Excalibur returned to England. While this was a momentary victory for Juggernaut, he brought the Jem back not yet knowing what he was going to do with it. The Black Night also left the team to try to uncover the secrets of his sword.

Recently Nocturne was struck down by a stroke. After weeks of hospitalization and rehabilitation, she is still struggling to regain the use of her body and mind. With the team's support, Nocturne has found the strength to continue trying to reclaim what she used to take for granted. The team has also been having trouble coping with the tragedy, as such an ailment reminds all of their mortality.

Alternate Realities

In this reality the team was known as Calibur. Members were: Cap'n Saxonia, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Iron Fist and Spider-Girl.
