Not Bad
Once again the cover is just beautiful. It looks like a photograph of Sersi, rather than a painting. Very impressive. Also the best thing about the book. I know, I should be praising it. Hell, it is written by Gaimen, but I do not feel like giving him an easy time, just because I like everyone else loved The Sandman.
He fell into a story telling trap that very few can get themselves out of. Heck, Hitchcock was one of the few who could do it flawlessly. I guess that is why he is now known as The Master Of Suspense. That trap is giving the audience more information than the characters, and then watching as the characters catch up.
Here it becomes boring as we wait for Mark Curry to realize what we already know. There is just not enough tension in the process of his learning to carry us on his path. Instead, we are way ahead of him yelling "HURRY, WE HAVEN'T GOT ALL DAY!!!" Over all the book isn't a total loss. It is just that if done right, it could have been much better.
