CaptHowdy666's Escape of the Living Dead #1 - Trade Paperback Collected Edition review

Outdated Trade Paperback, Good Story, Get Resurrection.

John Russo, one of the creators of the original Night of the Living Dead movies (the writer), gives us this sequel to it. If you have seen the movies the guy has made since then, you would be apprehensive about checking out the comic. Movies such as the Santa Claws and the Night of the Living Dead 30th Anniversary Cut aren't that phenomenal. BUT, I think writing for comics may be where it's at for him. Unfortunately he is trying to get this made into a movie as well, which would be cool, but I hope some money gets behind it and he isn't that involved.

It is 1971! Hippie, easy free love is all around, but the zombie menace is still too! The sotry revolves around only a few main characters, making it nice and small. The perfect atmosphere as that's of course what made the original 1968 movie so great!

The zombie gore is awesome, the story is a nice continuation of the original (or at least in that vein) and I highly recommend it to all fans of the original film. Fans of the new zombie-ish stuff that takes such a wide apocalyptic scale may be disappointed.

There is lots of violence, sex, nudity, pot smoking, acid dropping, and basically everything 1971 was known for.

As for trade paperbacks do not get this one. I, stupidly picked both this one and Escape of the Living Dead: Resurrection at the exact same time from the comic shop. Kind of wish the comic store owner would have let me in on the fact that this one is the first five issues in the series. Resurrection contains not only these same five issues but five more. A much better deal.
