Cinderella for the Early 20th Century
Starting in the newspapers on June 1 1925 Ella Cinders was Cinderella moved to modern times (well, modern 80 years ago) she had a wicked step-mother, two pampered sisters and the rest.
She also however had a boy friend by the name of Waite Lifter, and a kid brother named Blackie.
In the end she became not a princess but a starlet in Hollywood.
Close enough for the depression I guess.
She was also one of the first comic book stars when United Features put her, along with Tarzan, The Captain and the Kids, Li’t Abner and others in one of the first comic books Tip Top Comics in 1936.
