    Not this way

The short lived Elektra series had as its goal to give a new direction to the former assassin and establish her as somewhat of a hero and on the whole it did a fairly good job.  A decent cast of supporting characters was established and the storylines were decent, with even some new and interesting villains being introduced.  The series suffered a little from a change of writers after issue 13, after which the supporting characters (except Nina) were mostly forgotten.  The main problem with the series is that the fans were (unfortunately) not sold on the new Elektra.  They were too used to the femme fatale and not a kinder gentler versions (though she wasn't that gentle or kind, she still killed probably over 50 people in less than  20 issues.  The last six issues gave us a grittier Elektra, but still readership was not enough to save the series.  The problem with the last issue is that there was absolutely no resolution.  I can appreciate the stubborness of the creative team, wanting to see their hard work go on, but it should have been clear to them that Elektra would be going back to her old ways.  As such instead of leaving the series on a cliffhanger (which has never been resolved and likely never will be) it would have been nice to the loyal fans to provide some sort of closure to the fans which we would never see again.  Nina was last seen mostly redeemed, and King and Konnie were about to be married.  Would have been nice to be able to say in the back of my mind "they are living happily ever after" instead of "whatever happened to them?"
