For those of us who sigh at over-the-top antics, manic drama and miss the integration of history in comics, this series was a splash of refreshingly cool water. Although fictional, the integration with reality is quite believable, the art is realistic, and the characters are intriguingly captivating. A heartbreak for me when I heard of its ending, but the glimmer of gold will remain in my personal treasure chest.
Crossgen is one of the most important publishers for me. I´ve only discovered them last year (2010) and the first series I purchased was "Crux" and it was an instant blow. Steve Epting was magnificent, beyond words, I just loved what he done in Crux, his art evolved so much. And when he left Crux he boarded in this impressive pirate tale called "El Cazador". Chuck Dixon already worked with Epting in "Crux" so you can expect a dynamic and brilliant creative team and symbioses in this series! Dixo...
This one right here truly got me into comics, whereas I only had a passing interest before. Historical setting on the sea is brought to life in the swashbuckling tale of piracy. Our heroine is a likeable character, dispensing justice Old Testament style while the stakes are driven higher by each passing moment. Artwork is highly detailed, drawing the viewer into the world.
