Eclipso
Character » Eclipso appears in 370 issues.
Originally, Eclipso was the first incarnation of the Spirit of Wrath who went rogue. Sealed inside the Heart of Darkness, he could posses those that came into contact with it, most famously Bruce Gordon. In the New 52, Eclipso is said to be Lord Kaala, the evil offspring from House Onyx and House Diamond born during an eclipse granting him vast powers and eventually becoming the tyrant of Gemworld.
Off My Mind: Will Eclipso Corrupt the DC Universe?
Everyone has a darkness in them and Eclipso, a vengeance demon, will be seeking that out and using it to his advantage. Eclipso is summoned by feelings of rage and revenge. Eclipso has tried take over Earth before but failed. In order to succeed this time, Eclipso has to corrupt powerful heroes in order to use their strength and skills for his own means. That's where the Justice League of America comes in.
The current roster is made up of several powerful characters. They do have their share of experience fighting evil but are still getting used to fighting together as the Justice League. If Eclipso can fully corrupt the Justice League, his next target will be the Spectre. It was the Spectre that gave Eclipso a sound defeat recently. In order to succeed this time, Eclipso needs to take out Spectre quickly. If it fulfills any need for revenge, I'm sure that will be okay with Eclipso.
What is Eclipso's true motive? Does he simply want to try to take over the Earth again?
== TEASER ==
In the upcoming "The Rise of Eclipso" story arc in next month's Justice League of America, the Lord of Darkness will begin his attack against mankind. It might seem odd that Eclipso could so easily corrupt such noble characters as the members of the Justice League. In the past, he's simply been able to corrupt heroes by attaching to their rage. How could heroes not feel any anger or rage when they're faced with a never-ending battle against evil. These heroes are only human after all...well, most of them are. If even Superman can get possessed, the new Justice League can as well.
We've seen the big stories where evil tries to win but always gets defeated. When Eclipso starts to unravel his plan, it's going to be bigger than anything he's tried before. Villains should learn from their mistakes. Eclipso has made several in the past. That's what will make his so dangerous this time. Despite the feeling of Brightest Day in the DC Universe, there's is still darkness.
It appears that Eclipso's attack will also bring in a new Lantern to the Justice League, Saint Walker the Blue Lantern. We will see if his power of hope is strong enough to cut through the darkness Eclipso unleashes.
Does Eclipso stand a chance? Besides Saint Walker, are there heroes free from anger and rage? Superman recently lost his fellow Kryptonians on New Krypton, Batman just needs to be reminded of the evil that takes away innocent lives, Hal Jordan has the memory of the destruction of Coast City and being possessed by Parallax. We know that Jade and Obsidian will play a part in balancing the darkness. It will be interesting to see what hidden rage the heroes are hiding inside. If they can't contain and overcome it, Eclipso will win.
i've missed Eclipso and his battles with Lar Grand, it was some of the best stuff coming out back in the 90's. One of my fav bad guys with a lot to offer. great article G-dude
@marvelunivers: @Billy Batson: Thanks guys! I appreciate it!
First it was the Red Skull in the Marvel Universe, now Eclispo...... well he is Demon of Darkness
he has a better shot at total universe corruption...... Just Sayin'
Can DC just move on from the Rainbow Brite lanterns already?
Do they have to be involved with everything at DC? I'm waiting for the return of 'Mazing Man as a lantern in some sort of an epic storyline that will change DC forever!
" This is when they call in Captain Marvel!!!! Also Eclipso is one of my favourite villains. "High five that sh!t
" @Supreme Marvel said:UP TOP!!" This is when they call in Captain Marvel!!!! Also Eclipso is one of my favourite villains. "High five that sh!t "
Hopefully this is where James Robinson corrects his mistake in Cry for Justice and just brings in Billy Batson as Captain Marvel and pave the way for a series written by Grant Morrison...
Too much?
Since when has the Spectre been getting his butt kicked in every comic book out there?
Nice to see Brett Booth (Backlash) get a job again...
I know nothing about Eclipso.... but is it me or is his return somewhat similar of Fear Itself?
OKay, gotta ask it, who cares? It's a single storyline. Eclipso won't do anything crazy and the most this arc will do is effect the next Justice League Arc or too, and maybe the Spectre. I don't really see the need for an article on a storyline when there are like 50 storylines
As it stands though, I like the Spectre and I like Eclipso, especially in his Justice League two-parter. So hopefully he gets good treatment here and Robinson doesn't suck the life out of the story like he normally does
is the Eclipso storyline going to spread across other DCU titles or is it going to be contained in the JLA issues and have Eclipso job against this lame incarnation of the JLA in an attempt to make them look better?
It''l be difficult to manipulate Batman, he's able to process some pretty stressful stuff, as morrisson's run has shown. Same with Hal Jordan and overcoming Parallax. Superman will probably be most vulnerable, what with his father, uncle and fellow kryptonians dying within such a short span of time+he's vulnerable to magic, so the choice may be out of his hands...
As someone who never even considered Eclipso part of MY DC universe, I gotta say, this sounds like it MIGHT be worth reading.
I love Eclipso, but his apperance in the JL book does nothing for me :( I really wish that the title lead continuity instead of following it :/
AND it's Bruce Gordon back as Eclipso. I thought Gordon should have stuck with a normal life, but...
" I know nothing about Eclipso.... but is it me or is his return somewhat similar of Fear Itself? "Well the big two are ever so fond of parroting each other these days...
" Eclipso should just target/team with Atrocitus for an unending well of rage "That would be a pretty cool to story.
i am really looking forward to this. i love the current lineup of justice league. and i think eclipso is a good villain.
" is the Eclipso storyline going to spread across other DCU titles or is it going to be contained in the JLA issues and have Eclipso job against this lame incarnation of the JLA in an attempt to make them look better? "LMAO
My dude, who's even on their squad these days? I've noticed Congorilla, only because he's a golden ape that is not of Saiyan origins.
