omega_man_'s Earth 2 #1 - The Price of Victory review

    Not worth your money

Ok where do I start with this book? I actually had high hopes I liked the looks of Wonder Woman and Superman I still didn't like Batman's look in this, sure I know it wasn't the typical Superman Batman and WW book it was all Earth 2 heroes and so on....

BBUUTTT as I read this book it was going good I liked the pacing and I loved the art and so on. It was the result of this that I hated. I know alot of reviewers like this book but me? the start was good the ending was bad...REALLLYYY Bad!!!

There are some spoliers after this. So don't read on if you don't want to know them

How some of these heroes die, it's stupid. Makes no sense and pretty much DC is mocking the Readers, yes I know I like the other heroes to come Jay and Alan but the trinity is where it's at. I'm a die hard fan of the three of them and there deaths are...how can I put this in a nice way without cursing? there are no words to describe how much I felt like DC were mocking me for taking my money and this is me putting it out there politely my actual vocal statement of this was far worse and I wouldn't recommend kids hearing it either.

Wonder woman gets stabbed....WOW that didn't take much to kill her off now did it? she was stabbed by Steppenwolf in the back and it kills her. She's a warrior, she doesn't THINK some are coming behind her? No wonder she was last amazon all the others must not like watching their backs either and it caught up on her. Yes I am mocking it.

Superman blowing up......Just look at those three words will you? just look 'Superman blowning up' You would look at me as if I was stupid or something but no he actually does die by getting blown up by none other than para demons...what in the....come on para demons killed Superman? not Darkseid or even the great steppenwolf himself? (I know Steppenwolf is under Darkseid in the old series like a general or something) not in a massive battle like in pre 52 Superman vs Doomsday? no he gets blown up. thats IT a man who's taken explosions and laughs them off, gets blown up and killed by it, and don't say that hey the bomb is from apokolips if it was THAT strong why didn't it level the entire country? it should have at least made a creator bigger than the USA to kill him.

And last but not least Batman's death, this has to be one if not THEE most stupid deaths in comic history, why? Batman sacrifices it all by blowing up the main apokolips complex, he dies in the explosion. Sure he's not invulnerable like Superman but tell me how many times have you read or seen Batman get out of exploding places? I have honestly lost count, what made this explosion so different from the millions of others before? NOTHING repeat NOTHING there was NO reason why Batman couldn't have had a back up plan to escape that. If it was the main DCU earth Batman he'd get out why couldn't this Earth 2 one get out?

Overall, I give it a mark on great art and the setting. The setting is much bigger in feel than anything JL series did with Jim Lee. And the start was awesome along with the nice tid bits of Alan Scott and Jay Garrick too come. But I still give it a 1 and a half out of 5 simply because the deaths of DC's flag ship characters was weak like really weak. If these heroes can die so easily why haven't they in the main DCU?

"If it was the main DCU Earth Batman he'd get out..."

If it was the main DCU Earth Batman, this series wouldn't need to exist now would it?

The main DCU Earth Batman didn't have a teenage daughter he'd raised alongside him. That can change a man.

The Trinity didn't have Aquaman, Green Lantern, Flash, or Martian Manhunter (Or Cyborg if Geoff Johns stupidly prefers) watching their backs when Darkseid invaded. They just weren't enough alone.

This series is all about doing something DIFFERENT than the main DCU Earth. The Trinity left behind an eternal legacy, and we're going to follow the new heroes that follow in their footsteps. New heroes who are, ironically, based on the OLDER heroes than their main DCU Earth counterparts.

It's not about the Trinity, but it IS about what they stand for, because it's implied they were just about the only superheroes in Earth 2.

You are missing the point. If it was any Batman not just main DCU Batman would have survived that explosion. and what does him having a daughter change anything on him not surviving that?

No you are right no other leaguers were there but they had the roman pantheon of gods helping them some where else and they were dying? this comic is total WIS how are parademons doing this killing off Gods and killing off Superman? and it was only Steppenwolf NOT Darkseid who was invading Earth 2, Steppenwolf is a general of Darkseid and he threshed the trinity and almost took over Earth? Steppenwolf isn't in the same leagues as Darkseid yet he with a few million Parademons succeeded in Killing SUPERMAN, BATMAN & WONDER WOMAN!!! THAT is bad writing, considering Superman has beaten Steppenwolf so easily in any other continuity single handedly.

Parademons have never been portrayed as that powerful, old DCU and even main DCU Earth Parademons were swatted aside like cannon fodder cause thats all they are and you want me to believe they are capable of killing Superman with a bomb that did NO destructive damage to the city at all?

And WW dying being stabbed in the back when clearly Steppenwolf used a boomtube to get there in the first place? WW couldn't hear a boomtube? It's like thunder when someone uses that and so she never thought someone was behind her?

I hated this comic so much I took it back to my comic shop and I got a refund, No I don't hate different, no I don't hate change I hate BAD change and BAD differences or just writers that simply stick there finger up at me and insult my intelligence. That is what this comic is, in fact this was MY FIRST review as I've never hated a comic so much as this that I felt the need to review it.

Also I'm not against killing off Flag ship heroes either as long as I can say yeah that can be done, example the DCUO comic series Superman and WW die in that and you know what? I liked that, it was believable that Superman could die in that way getting stabbed by a green K spear and pretty much WW dying by Lex Luthor's hands as his war suit is much more powerful than anything she has. I don't however believe in a bomb killing off Superman and I don't believe in WW dying in battle simply because she forgot to watch her back. Or if Batman got too lazy to escape an explosion he's BATMAN thats what he does he gets out of the impossible situations.

You seriously need to re-read Earth 2 and go though comic facts and re-review Earth 2, I admit I like parts of it such as the Art and also the Tone of it, but Tone and great Art does not a good comic make.

Him having a daughter changes his perspective of things. He's raised her in his own image, and it's softened him to a degree. If the only way to defeat the Parademons involves his own sacrifice, well... he's more willing to do it. Because he knows he's making a better world for his daughter. Because he knows he's left the world in good hands, hers.

Explain to me what 'WIS' is please.

Ok, why don't you try something for me. Have your entire family; extended family and all; be killed by a group of aliens. Then get in the middle of a pitched battle with them in the middle of a city. Where everything is chaotic and loud, and you're a little more focused on each target because you're an avenger. Then tell me she would clearly be able to hear someone behind her, Boom Tube or not.

Who's to say Darkseid isn't himself taking out the Roman Gods? Who's to say Darkseid didn't have a better invasion plan? And Actually... what happened to Superman didn't look like your average everyday garden variety explosion. There was something large and glowing with lightning sparks coming off of it that seemed to be behind the Parademons that appeared behind him right before. It didn't make a boom so it likely wasn't a Boom Tube. The explosion that killed him had some crazy swirls to it. And his focus was off. He was a little more uncertain of himself. He didn't have the burning focused rage Wonder Woman had, even though he had the same sense of loss. This war had clearly been going on for a while, Steppenwolf and Darkseid likely could've concocted something that was capable of killing Superman. They knew him as 'Kal.'

And actually, what happened to Superman looked EXACTLY like the crazy portal Supergirl and Robin went though. It seems like there's more to that when you use CONTEXT CLUES.

But I was perfectly content to make this a civil debate. But man, that last thing there? So you admit this is your first review. Granted that doesn't mean you don't have experience at analyzing critically, but it means you don't have experience in writing it out into a manner for others to read it. Because there's a huge difference in simply thinking something is good or not, and writing about it. When you write about it, you start looking for more things. You start to notice more details and trends. You gain a more discerning eye to pick apart details and analyze meaning. You focus more on characterization and metaphors than you would before. And I've done this over 750 times. And I'm not talking half assed 'Oh I liked this but this was bad,' minimalist bull crap; I say as much as I need to every time. Several of my reviews have been a few pages long when put into a word document. I've written college essays out of reviews and gotten perfect grades on them. I'm in the top five reviewers on this site because I am DEDICATED TO WHAT I DO HERE. There's a reason I have the highest rated review for this issue, it's because I read the f***ing issue, I analyzed the details, I re-read it, picked apart, took a close look at every detail and I wrote what I thought it deserved. Where the hell do you get off telling me that I did my review wrong? I don't like to flaunt my status, I'm not egotistical; but you're a mouse stepping into a lion's den. You seemed like you at least weren't a rambling idiot so stuck in his own little world that you're not even worth bothering to exchange words with like DarthShap a little bit above you on this page; but to call me out on my skills reviewing? Not even a matter of clashing opinions, you straight up insulted my work that I've invested my time in and am proud of the results.

You don't like my opinion of the issue? Fine, I just thought I'd provide some non-hostile counter-arguments, I enjoy the art of the casual debate, but you had to go and make it personal. You don't even have a support to stand on to make your claim that 'I did it wrong because you know better than me.' So don't you tell me how to write my reviews unless you've got evidence that has made me change my mind. Which in this case, you don't.

There is a reason why Superman was killed that way (by that machine the parademons put on him) and why Steppenwolf was the one to kill Wonder Women, (who isnt that last amazon left, there is one more.) listen to James Robinson on the comicvine podcast he explains somethings ,not everything but what ever he can say.(http://www.comicvine.com/podcast/). I loved this issue and i dont see anything wrong about it, idd give it 5/5.

I don't know what I was expecting when I first heard of Earth 2. Actually, scratch that. I thought it would be basically the basic DCU with a few cast changes and a bit of creative liberty. What drew me in was where this creativity could go.And man, did it go places.Let;s compare it to the obvious: JLA. Now, I say this without an ounce of Hyperbole, this one issue delivered more than the first arc of Justice League of America. I am not joking. One thing it had was weight, a feeling that stakes we...
