Here is a little blurb on what Mr Salvatore said about the final book for the Transitions series.

makes me cringe. To say "The Ghost King" is about the Crystal Shard is like saying that "Streams of Silver" is about Entreri chasing Regis. Yes, it's there, kind of, but the book is about the change in the Forgotten Realms, the Spellplague and the end of...well, for me, an era. To begin writing every day, I'd go to youtube and pull up three specific musical clips of a favorite muse to put myself squarely in the emotional mindset I encountered when writing "Mortalis," because these old friends, the Companions of the Hall, demanded no less from me. Most of my writing was done through tears. Reducing that to a the big baddie, THE CRYSTAL SHARD!, well, doesn't work for me, sorry. But then, the person writing that ad copy hadn't read the book, since it was out before I even turned the book in, and to this day, no one other than R.A. Salvatore has read it cover to cover.
After reading that I'm worried that it might really be an end of an era and no more Drizzt novels. :(

It might just be another 'break' from the characters. Though since he mentioned the Spellpleague (which is an even 100+ years in the future of the current year setting they are in) it means that Wulfgar, Regis, Catti-brie, and even Bruenor will all be gone...  :(

However it is said that he plans to do a book (hopefully series) on Jarlaxle and Zak(Drizzt's father) after this set is done. It would be a novel that takes place in the past when those two where out and about in Menzobarranzan together.

There is a series out already with him and Artemis Entreri. It was pretty good and I love the dynamic they have together. We also get introduced to another dwarf named Athrogate who rhymes all the time. He and Jarlaxle also make a guest appearance in the latest Drizzt novel Pirate King.

Sup man, I ain't talked to you in forever.

Well he has been writing him for 20 years now and the setting (company) he is in changed a lot recently because of the spellplague event. I think it might be at least three years before we get another one after The Ghost King.

    Book.
The comics are not that far along just yet. They are just on Starless Night which is equivalent to the 8th book (out of 20).

I think if they had fought before The Orc King he would of won. But to me it would really depend on the circumstances of the battle. If there was no outside interference (like Drizzt having to worry about his friends) then he would take Jarlaxle. But otherwise Jarlaxle will win because he has so many tricks up his sleeve.

That's why I mentioned the Orc King novel. There he faced off against Obould who had magical impervious armor. His Scimitars Iceingdeath and Twinkle could not penetrate it. So in their next encounter he prepared for brought Khazid'hea(Cutter) a magical longsowrd that could cut through anything. He also brought a loaded corssbow with exsplosvie darts to use.

So when push comes to shove he has been shown to do what needs to be done to get the job done. For the greater good of course. ^^

Also in Servant of the Shard Artemis and Jaralxe fought. It was a close match with Jarlaxle winning it, im my opinion. Now That shows his skill level with a blade, but Drizzt also can beat Artemis. So it would at the very least be a close fight.

Another fight to be able to compare them to would be against Zak, Drizzt's father as both have fought him. Granted when Jarlaxle fought Zak it was before Drizzt was born by over 100 years. lol Jarlaxle stated that he beat Zak, but it was a shaded win as it was through trachory. But that is the way of the drow so it counts.

After the next series of books yeah. There were already short passages in the first book of Transitions of Drizzt in the future(after the spellplague) and he mentions of all of them gone etc. So I think after he does the Zak/Jaralxe book and maybe one to tie off Artemis we will get another novel on Drizzt or at least some short stories.
