Dreamworks is planning to produce a film staring Drizzt Do'Urden with Wesley Snipes in the title role. The movie is still 2 years or so away. That time frame may change depending on the degree to which LOTR is a success. Get ready for a new wave of fantasy movies if LOTR is a monster smash. It's a sign of how poorly heroic fantasy movies have historically performed that there are not more imitators trying to come out around LOTR. (Yeah, yeah, Conan. Name another popular success. Ator and Hawk the Slayer don't make the cut.)Number one on the supporting cast wish list is Lawrence Fishburn as Jarlaxle. WOTC/TSR was shopping an Icewind Dales Trilogy script. I've heard the decision is between trying to film from the novel or create an original story with the characters, possibly by/with Salvatore. Huge lift for D&D, Forgotten Realms, and Role-playing in general. Dreamworks hasn't made a bad movie yet. I'd love to see their creative teams take on Heroic Fantasy.
Drizzt Do'urden
Character » Drizzt Do'urden appears in 55 issues.
Drizzt Do'Urden is a Drow (dark elf) from Menzoberranzan, one of the largest cities in the Underdark of Faerun. Unlike most rather sociopathic Drow, Drizzt is a kind, good person.

Andferne says:
"There is no way Snipes will play Drizzt. If he does I shudder to see how this movie will be done.If they give Salvatore any say Snipes will not be playing Drizzt."
then who will?
I've read The Dark Elf Trilogy, and now I'm nearing the end of The Icewind Dale Trilogy, myself! About 30 pages left 'til the end! I bought all the books with Drizzt in advance, except the last 3 (which I won't have to buy for a while)!
Ever since the first book I read of Drizzt, I thought of how great it'd be if they made a movie out of it! But, they'd have to do it GOOD! Wesley Snipes definitely doesn't fit the role, imo. I think we actually need a "no name" actor to do the job; he'd have to be in his early 20's, I think; with a pretty young looking face. Have the guys from X-men movie come over and help with the special effects, too. Remember NightCrawler? That'd be close to what I could picture Drizzt looking like... minus the weird teeth, of course; darken the skin to a more blackish-gray, and make him have lavender eyes. It'd be great.
They'd have to make this one BIG budget, like Lord of The Rings! If it's low budget, it'll not work well, imo. Maybe the guys from The Matrix could help with some special effects, too! Imagine Drizzt fighting really fast, and then it slows down in certain parts, just to see the swords moving, especially when he fights Entreri.
They'd have to take a lot of time out to pick the right actors and actresses, though.
The guy that played Gimli in The Lord of The Rings, would be a perfect Bruenor Battlehammer! Obviously. Don't know how many people'd be like "Uh... THAT'S GIMLI! WHAT'S he doing in this movie!?" LOL! Oh well. :P
They'd have to get someone aspiring to be the next "big thing" in WWE wrestling, to play Wulgar. A good actor, though; not cheesey!
It'll be easy to get any lil beautiful Scottish chick to play Cattie-Brie. ;)
And so on.
They already made LOTR great, so this movie shouldn't be hard, since it too, is of the same type of fantasy: elves, dwarves, humans, etc.

There are a lot better choices than Snipes (plus his legal actions might keep him out of movies for a while lol)
Keep in mind Drizzt is 5'4" and about 130 pounds. I won't even touch the racial issues that will come up from Snipes in that role as well. All that can be found and discussed in that link.
Snipes makes no sense for the role. He looks nothing like Drizzt, or any other 'elven' character for that matter.

I agree with that, Snipes would be a really bad casting. And by that i mean awful.
Jim says:
"Ray Park would be my first choice for the roll of Drizzt. My only concenrn would be his acting and voice. He has the physical skills but I have yet to see him in a role where he does something besides fight."
Ray Park would be fine if he didn't have any lines.
I can't think of anyone really, that would make a good Drizz't. Maybe Gerard Butler? On the other hand there are tons of unknown actors that are great.
Drizzt seems like an interesting character. I didn't know about him until I unlocked him in Baldur's Gate.
"No idea who he is, but his page is impressive.."Same thing I said. LOL. I don't have the patience to do all that. Though, it sets it apart from other pages here. I wish all pages were like that one.
"I had that game!"I borrowed it for a while. It didn't take me long to beat. I was upset with the game being too short and not being able to unlock everything. Champions of Norrath satisfied me more, but that could have been longer, too.
"No idea who he is, but his page is impressive.."That's how Dani's is going to look

Norrath was garbage.. touched it once in my 4 years of owning it
"the first on or the second one?The first one. My brother and I hawked through that game immediately. Champions: Return to Arms wasn't as good, even though I beat that one as well. It was longer, even if it did seem... bland.

"Yeah my sister and i blazed through the first one... I didn't know drizz was playable though... i thought it was only the second one"He's playable in Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Drizzt isn't associated with the Realm of Norrath.
"I meant Dark Alliance II"Oh. He's in that game as playable character? Like, the whole game?
I have read every Salvatore novel concerning Drizzt and his friends including the Cleric Quintet and the Sellswords trilogy. They are some of my favorites of all time. That being said I believe, a live action movie would be a disaster. It would cost just as much or more then LOTR to make it right and no studio is going to gamble that type of money on something as unknown to the general public as Drizzt. So here's what's going to happen, they are goin to make a crappy movie, and when it sucks, blame the source material instead of low budget, shitty casting and a stupid director. I think the franchise would be better served as an animated series of movies with a japanamation edge, i.e. not afraid to show a little blood or skin when appropriate. I hope Salvatore will be very careful about who he lets interpret his characters.
