Despite being all kinds of awesome and getting widely positive reviews, Dredddidn't do very well at the box office. It was a hit when it eventually came to blu-ray/DVD sales, but disappointing box office figures isn't exactly easy for a studio to overlook. We desperately want a sequel and it's clear many others do, too -- the "Make a Dredd Sequel" Facebook page currently has over 31,000 likes. Publisher 2000AD definitely isn't giving up on the live-action version of the franchise and they've created an official petition to hopefully boost the odds of a sequel being made.

It's unclear how many signatures are required to be a success, but that shouldn't deter you from doing the right thing and signing it, right? We'd be more than thrilled to see Karl Urban reprise the role, so hopefully this will make a difference!

I know people are really into this movie, but I just can't for the life of me understand why. It felt like a very standard low budget shoot em up to me. Also, I can't imagine a petition will make any difference. The movie was a huge bomb in theaters, and to do a movie about the dark judges as they had planned they would need a significantly larger budget. It did well in the home market, that's great, but that would only justify an even lower budget straight to DVD sequel. I don't think anybody would end up being happy with that.

This awesome movie got me into the comics which I love. I thought it was better than Batman and Spider-Man. I'd love to see another!

Petition isnt gonna do shit for a sequel you need studios and investors and if the first one bombed, all your gonna get is a shitty straight to dvd sequel filmed in some stoners garage

Generally when studios change their minds it's because of fan letters, press and sales. Dredd only has sales, and not enough to warrant a sequel it seems like.

I liked the page and I'd love to see a sequel, I just don't think it's looking too likely, even with 200,00 likes.

@jonny_anonymous: nah, it was way too obvious he was forcing it, no depth at all. didnt help that he wears a ridiculous helmet too big for his head either(works in the comics, in film not so much)

The helmet was not to big at all, have you seen a fire fighter/policeman/soldier's helmet in real life?

Yes, right.

Petitions made no difference in any of those cases.

It was sales, protests and media coverage.

A petition alone won't do anything and as I said, there is not enough sales or media coverage to get Dredd 2 in the works.

Eh no petitions helped in every one of those cases because they provide media coverage, especially since it's Dredd's actual publisher that's started the campaign not to mention the sales for the Dredd DVD/Blueray bumped it to the number one spot at three different occasions after it's release.
