Oh if only this was real god please let this happen even though I know it will not. Cumberbatch is great modern-day Sherlock, and he’d make an excellent Morpheus as well.

All I can say is that if there is enough interest in this if a enough people build this idea it will come,,,think positive think Cumberbatch for Morpheus

I like.

@Morpheus_: I know it's kind of scary how close to the character he looks, as for his acting I would even go as far as to say that this is the part he was born for.

Indeed. I think he values Sandman more than a majority of his other works, and he's probably seen enough awful adaptions of Alan Moore's works to realize that the Brothers Warner are clueless, in every sense of the word.

Yeah, but when it comes down to it does Gaiman have any actual control? The only reason he has any pull is because they DC tries to be respectful to him, but technically speaking he owns nothing. If they thought they could make a lot of money on a Sandman movie, would they care if he rejected it?

Well, if DC though they could make a lot of money with it then:

1. They'd have a big budget to go with it.
2. They'd probably let Gaiman help with it.

So, Gaiman most probably wouldn't reject it. Gaiman just doesn't want it to be a cheap movie with no effort in it. Percy Jackson comes to mind, I know it has nothing to do with this and the target audience is completely different. But that movie... it just has nothing to do with the book. And it was horrible. It'd be a shame if Sandman ended up becoming something like this.

Julian Richings ????????? WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Julian Richards although a brilliant actor would be much more suited to playing Morpheus Librarian as he is wonderful at character acting

I don't think Gaiman has any actual control over the series or the characters, at least not as far as I know. I remember reading something about an attempt at an animated Sandman series for which Gaiman was only unofficially involved. But at the same time they needed his permission (or it might have just been his blessing) to feature Death in Action Comics #894 and Madame Xanadu #6.

Kinda strange that I made a thread about this idea. Now this shows.  
  

I like the idea of Cumberbatch as Morpheus, however i'm so against a Sandman film it's unbelievable.

Now a HBO tv series on the other hand....
