A new breed of video-game comics

In the past video game comics have been a big disappointment, but this dragon age spin off shows potential The story centers around the Mages who live in the Circle Tower and the Templars who monitor them and dictate rules for them to live by. The mechanic played between these two groups is interesting because Templars fear Mages because of their power and as a result unrightfully subjugate them; the Mages on the other hand want to be treated as equals. In this hostile world a Templar named, Sedatt and a Mage named, Veness fall passionately in love.

It isn't long before Veness is pregnant and facing the wrath of her Mage overseers. The character evolution happens a little too quickly and although it make the characters complex, it also make it hard to become invested. The birth of Gleam is also rushed.  Despite this the writing is some of the best I have seen. Dragon Age also shows a character and a flavor most videogame comics’ lack. The art in this series is hyper-exaggerated, overly energetic style which fits really well with the story.  In terms of the overly speedy pacing and the stylized art, it seems that the team just wanted to get everything out. I'd like to think things will settle down in future installments and that Dragon Age becomes an example by which other, video-game comics might model their comic after.
