Dr. Pretorius works for Mr. Peebles and the Hand of Four, a secret group of plutocrats who want to take over Victorian Britain. He builds a machine that can control electric fields in a number of incredible ways, including the creation of lighting bolts capable of assassinating people on the street on a cloudless day, the creation of a stasis field powerful enough to trap Bozz, an alien capable of manipulating energy in a variety of ways himself, and even the resurrection of the dead!

When Mandy Flynn, Salem Hawkshaw, and Bozz find out about the machine and the Hand of Four, they drop in on his secret laboratory. Pretorius manages to trap Bozz, but the others break him free and Bozz overloads the machine. It explodes, killing the doctor.
