The Wizard of Oz
Dorothy was apparently an orphan living with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry in Kansas on their farm. With her dog Toto, she was swept away in a twister. Her farmhouse was transported to the land of Oz, thus beginning her adventures in the wonderful land.
Her first adventure starts as she finds her house has landed on the Wicked Witch of the East leaving the Munchkins thinking of her as a savior to their people. Soon enough, the Good Witch of the North finds her, gives her the silver shoes for a reward, and a kiss on the forehead for protection from evil. However, Dorothy wants to go home. The witch sends her to the Wizard because he will know the way back home.
Along her destination to the Emerald City, she meets some friends and has other adventures. She finds a Scarecrow in need of some brains, a Tin Woodman who has no heart, and a Lion who is a coward. They all prove they need no such things as they face the Kalidahs, but they still are in search for everything just to help Dorothy. As soon as they reach the Wizard, he tells them that he cannot help them unless they kill the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy agrees and the journey to the west parts of Oz. However, before Dorothy can find the evil witch, she is captured and brought to the castle by a group of winged monkeys. Thus, Dorothy becomes the witch’s slave and kills the witch by throwing a bucket of water onto the witch.
Later her and her friends return to the Emerald City finding the Wizard can give everyone, but Dorothy, want they want. He is about to fly in a balloon back to Kansas with Dorothy until Toto runs off to chase a cat, leaving Dorothy stuck in Oz. While Scarecrow is made ruler of Oz (temporarily), Dorothy and her friends also seek Glinda, the Good Witch of the South for help. Although, they run into some trouble and get out of it, they find Glinda’s caste lint he south. She then tells Dorothy she had the power all this time. All Dorothy had to do was click her heals three times and she was home. Leaving the slippers behind somewhere in Oz, Dorothy and Toto returned to Kansas.
In later books, Dorothy eventually returns to Oz in several adventures. She meets more friends that are new. One that she become the closest too (more so than anyone else) is Princess Ozma who is the rightful ruler to Oz. The two become best friend and act more like sisters. She even runs into the Wizard again and he becomes a full-time citizen of Oz, just not ruler. Time and time she travels back and forth to Oz until she learns Uncle Henry can afford the home anymore. She tells him about Oz. Dorothy, Uncle Henry, and Aunt Em then decided to become residents in Oz to get away for their money problems in Kansas.
Dorothy was seen in Fables with flashbacks during the Legends in Exile story arc, while fleeing the Adversary. She later shows up in Jack of Fables as one of the many Fable prisoners at Golden Boughs Retirement Village. Her full story is told in Cinderella: Fables Are Forever, where it is revealed that the former innocent farm girl became a professional killer for hire. She went on to become Cinderella’s greatest nemesis. It is revealed, after Dorothy accidentally killed the Wicked Witch of the East with her house, she got a trill for killing witches after she was hired by the Wizard to kill the Wicked Witch of the West.
Years later, Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Woodman, and the Lion made it into the mundy world and searching for Fabletown. However, Dorothy did not like the terms of Fabletown and walked out with Toto. Dorothy then became an assassin. She eventually crossed paths with Cinderella, who ran into Dorothy during several secret missions for Fabletown. It came down to Dorothy kidnapping Snow White in Switzerland. Cinderella saved Snow White by throwing Dorothy off a cliff. Dorothy was found alive by Mr. Revise and was brought to Golden Boughs Retirement Village and thrown in the memory hole. When the Golden Boughs was destroyed, Dorothy remembered everything. She then struck off on her own.
As seen in Cinderella: Fables Are Forever, she began plotting her revenge on Cinderella, while also for the first time remembering where she actually lost the silver slippers. She returned to the Deadly Desert and managed to get the slippers back. She is with the Spoon Brigade, Bungle, and the Chiss. When she kills Mr. Kadabra and all signs points to Dorothy. Cinderella sets out to find her, aided by Ivan Durak of Shadow Fabletown. They are then found and taken to the Deadly Desert. Later it is revealed that Dorothy was Ivan all along and the real Ivan has been dead for a long time. She had been disguising herself using her silver slippers. Cinderella and Dorothy fight, but the battle ends when Cinderella steals the slippers and pushes Dorothy into the Deadly Desert. It is unknown whether Dorothy is still living or not.
