This page covers the DC comicbook hero Doomsday also known as Armagedon Creature , Armageddon Agent , The Ultimate Lifeform . If this is not the page you were looking for check here.

Doomsday was built to survive at all costs. Created millenia ago, his cruel and inhumane upbringing and long history of battle have made him a ruthless monster.

Origin:

Doomsday's "father" was a emotionless alien named Bertron, who was a geneticist who arrived on Krypton several hundred thousand years ago. He was obsessed with creating a creature that could survive any environment and even cheat death itself. Bertron subjected his test tube infants to Krypton's harsh landscape and its savage, hungry denizens, using the best of the surviving genes to improve his next creation; this harsh process was repeated over and over endlessly, in a mockery of natural evolution. Doomsday was intended to be a perfect being, and live forever using induced evolution to defy death. Though it cost him his life Bertron succeeded in altering Doomsday's DNA so that the creature could regenerate each time he was killed. Further more Doomsday would then evolve an immunity to what ever caused his demise. Once he became powerful enough to defy Bertron, he destroyed every living soul he could find including his creator. World after world found that they could not kill him, only exile him, and hope that others would fare better. Eventually Doomsday's unrelenting path of death and devastation lead him to Earth. Once there, he went on a rampage that ended in Superman's beloved city of Metropolis. Doomsday defeated the Justice League and soon was in a stalemate with Superman, who found that he could do little damage to the behemoth. But with his bony spurs and razor sharp extrusions, Doomsday was able to pierce Superman's skin and draw Kryptonian blood.

Death Blow

As the battle reached its crescendo, their final punches sent shock waves through the city. Superman calling on his last bit of strength was able to stop the creature, but Doomsday's final blow proved to be The Man of Steels undoing.

The villainous cyborg Hank Henshaw, masquerading as Superman, flung Doomsday into space.

Doomsday's Demise

When Imperiex threatened the universe, several villains were dispatched; calling themselves the Suicide Squad, they were sent to retrieve Doomsday. Though he destroyed several Imperiex Probes he was no match for Imperiex himself, who killed him with a slew of cosmic fire.

The Nightmare Returns

After being destroyed by Imperiex the creature returned again; this time he lay dormant and subdued in the subterranean levels of the Pentagon until released by the Joker. This step in his evolution saw him gain intelligence. He was self-aware and able to understand, which at first seemed to make him more deadly. But for the first time Doomsday felt doubt when Superman confronted him with the reality of his own mortality.

Eventually Doomsday sacrificed his newfound intellect to save Superman. He has been used as muscle by several villains since then, including Darkseid and Doctor Psycho.

Powers

Doomsday is extremely strong and powerful, able to match the strength of Superman in their fight, and in the Hunter/Prey mini series he is able to break Superman's arm, despite the fact that Superman was experiencing a massive power surge.

He is nearly invulnerable and has unlimited amounts of stamina, able to keep fighting with Superman for an entire day without tiring.

Doomsday could be considered immortal. He is resurrected after every time he dies, although how quickly he resurrects depends on how he dies. It would take thousands of years for him to be born again if his death was similar to the one Imperiax inflicted upon him (burning him to a skeleton). His design allows his DNA to adapt and become invulnerable to the cause of his death the next time he is born. Having lived for many years, he had experienced a huge amounts of death and agony, which drove him to hate all life. Along the lines of evolution, he can develop weapons to counter his previous deaths, such as the time he breathed flames against Martian Manhunter or when he cancelled Radiant, a being of pure energy, by generating an aura of energy and slamming it into Radiant. Engaging Doomsday in physical combat will mean almost certain death; almost 100% of those who have challenged him have lost their lives. He even once knocked out the lord of Apokolips.

Doomsday has a very fast healing factor, healing him almost instantly from any damage done. He does not need to sleep, eat, drink or even breathe and his body is mostly solid, with his few vital organs protected by thick layers of bone. He can survive on the most vicious environments, including space.

In his latest rebirth, Doomsday finally gains intelligence. Though this is later undone, it is possible he may again develop this ability, though he might have a different point of view next time.
