Doom Patrol Ends For a 5th Time

The Good: Ambush Bug is so funny. This issue begins with Animal-Mineral-Vegetable Man waking up in Antarctica. Turns out Ambush Bug, Crazy Jane, and Dusty are holed up in Danny the Bungalo and MSE is afraid to attack it; so Ambush Bug is constantly randomly teleporting members of the Front Men to Antarctica. SO FUNNY.

I'm glad we FINALLY got to see that Crazy Jane was still a part of this series after she was absent for so long. I just wish she would've had some cameos or something.
DIalogue is smooth and satisfying as usual.
The battle between the Doom Patrol and the Front Men was incredibly satisfying for being so short. It was a really good fight for characters who have been built up since issue 1.
    Danny the Island.
The abrupt ending works surprisingly well. Mostly due to Ambush Bug's subtle 4th wall break.
All of the loose threads were tied together.

The Bad: Art was a bit off compared to usual.
The VERY end was more of a cliffhanger, and really makes it odd for the final issue. Is it empty teasing? Does Griffen have a new project that will tie into this? Is it a challenge for whoever starts the next Doom Patrol series (They totally will get a new one eventually.) I dunno.

    In Conclusion: 4.5/5
Aside from the odd ending, this was a great final issue. All of the loose plot threads were tied together, not necessarily tied up, but tied together. The battle was something long foreshadowed, and everything fit together pretty well for what was likely a forced rushed ending. R.I.P. Keith Griffen's Doom Patrol. I will miss you.

One Last Note: I'm disappointed in DC over the cancellation of Doom Patrol. Normally this wouldn't require a final note, but what really got me was the fact that they had a crossover with the highly popular Secret Six (Which I APPROVE of.) It was a great story, flowed well, had an impact on Doom Patrol, but most of all, it was a GREAT way to try to bring in new readers, which is clearly the main reason for it to happen. So why oh why would you cancel Doom Patrol BEFORE THE CROSSOVER ACTUALLY HAPPENS!? The point is, you do the crossover, and then WAIT and issue or 2 to see if enough new readers jumped on! Otherwise, honestly, why have the crossover at all? What was the point? I still liked it, but I liked it even more because I thought it might save this comic. But instead IT NEVER GOT THE CHANCE. They threw it a lifeline AFTER IT HAD ALREADY DROWNED. Bad show DC.

      Doomed Patrol 0

After a nearly two year run, the Doom Patrol series comes to an end with this issue as the team storms the beaches of Oolong Island to retake their adoptive home. It is a bittersweet end to one of DC Comics' better series of the past few years and a disappointing reminder than quality does not often equal sales in the comics industry. One way or another, this issue wraps up many of the lingering plot threads and leaves the series in a position similar to how it began. This is far preferable to de...
