With the ability to remember every version of herself, Donna Troy is an important denizen of the DC Universe. She was a founder of the Teen Titans as the original Wonder Girl, and has served as Wonder Woman in Diana's absence. Donna Powers come from the Titans of Myth.
She is currently rumoured to be the Earth-2 version of Wonder Woman, appearing in the Justice Society of America.
Donna Troy was created by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, first appearing in Brave and the Bold #60. (1965)
Infant Donna Troy was saved from a fire by the Titan Rhea, who brought her to New Chronus, where she was gifted with amazing abilities. To teach humility, The Titan gods sent Donna back to earth at age 13 in the care of the Amazons (who, remember, would worship the Titans of Myth like gods). Queen Hippolyta adopted Donna as her daughter making her Diana's (Wonder Woman) adopted little sister. So Donna spent half her life with the Titans of Myth, and the other half with the Amazons.
Donna Troy’s publication history is a convoluted one as her background is based in the Wonder Woman titles, but her character development happened almost exclusively in the Teen Titans books. Thus, while the events which occurred in the Teen Titans defined her life she was still anchored to occurrences in the Wonder Woman title if they were changed. This had little effect on her during the Silver Age, as very few changes occurred. However, following Crisis on Infinite Earths her background was completely destroyed with the reboot of the Wonder Woman title. Since this time writers have struggled to find a place for Donna in the DC Universe.
After her initial appearances, it was decided that a more distinctive and unique costume for Donna would help define her character. Thus a redesign was introduced which is what would be considered the distinctive Wonder Girl costume – a red bodysuit with a row of yellow stars layered diangonally across the front, black boot and a gold belt with a W-shaped buckle. Throughout the 1960’s the team’s lineup changed many times, but true to DC’s informal team based policy, characters stayed most consistent members of a team if they had less success in their own books (for instance this is why Hawkman was such a long serving member of the JSA). With the Teen Titans most of the members had success in other books (as they were mostly sidekicks), but as Donna was created primarily for the Teen Titans and had little association with Wonder Woman, she was consistently a member of the Titans. The series had some troubles gaining a strong fan base over its first few years, with two cancellations in the 1960s and 1970s, but in the 1980s a wider group of heroes (including Starfire, Cyborg and Raven) helped revitalize the team and turned it into one of DC’s flagship titles (many compared it to the X-Men in terms of popularity). After this relaunch Donna’s costume was once again redesigned, though in this case more to refine her existing costume. Though she has changed costumes many times since, this Wonder Girl costume remains perhaps Donna Troy's best-known look and in fact was the costume which Donna passed on to Cassie when she became Wonder Girl.
Donna Troy was created in 1965 by writer Bob Haney and artist Bruno Premiani for the original Teen Titans, and there have been various characters to bear the name of Wonder Girl but Donna is the one that made the role famous as a member of the Teen Titans in the Silver Age. Two others have born the name. Wonder Woman used the name for her adventures as a teenager in the Golden Age, and in the modern comics Cassandra Sandsmark has taken on the role (which Donna passed on to her.) The Silver Age origin of the character is different from the current origin of the character. As a young girl, Donnawas orphaned after her parents were killed in a fire. Donna was herself rescued byWonder Woman who took the child to Paradise Island, where she was indoctrinated in the customs of the Amazons. Donna possessed no special powers but through the use of the Purple Ray, she was given abilities similar to Diana (although the ray was designed as an instrument of healing, it did not have this effect on Donna). Despite her young age, Donnabenefited from tutelage under Diana and became a powerful and highly-skilled warrior. When she became a teenager she followed in Diana’s footsteps by becoming a superheroine and joining the team of teenaged superheroes known as the Teen Titans.
Following Crisis on Infinite Earths, it was decided to reboot the Wonder Woman character and title. The writer on the title (George Perez) decided that Wonder Woman should be re-conceived as a younger, less-experienced heroine, not one of the more established ones. As a result, this left Donna’s origin quite vague. Donna’s stories now placed her as having arrived in man’s world before Diana, although Diana was said to be the first to have left Themyscira. Numerous re-writes of her character occurred making the character instead a descendant of the ancient Titans of Myth. However, this was later re-imagined by John Byrne, who wrote that Donna was a magical doppelganger created by the Amazon sorceressMagala so that Diana could have a friend to play with. Dark Angel sought revenge on Diana’s mother (who had been retroactively established as the Golden Age Wonder Woman) for her actions against her in the Second World War, and sought to punish her by torturing Diana. Unknown to her though she trapped Donna in her spell and not Diana. Donna was relegated to living a thousand lives, all of which ended in tragedy, and at the breaking point of each she would start over in a new scenario. The spell was eventually broken, and with the help of some of her allies her personality was recreated in a single body. She is thus regarded in some instances as Diana’s twin sister, but the trials she has been through left her substantially weaker and thus the two regard themselves more accurately as simply sisters. Despite technically being Hippolyta’s daughter the relationship between the two of them is often strained.
While with the New Teen Titans, Donna Troy met and fell in love with a college history professor named Terry Long, and they eventually became engaged. Before she married, she decided that she wanted to find her real parents. In the first story arc to investigate and describe Donna’s past (beginning in issue #38), Robin started investigated Donna's past. Robin discovered that Donna had been abandoned as a baby at an orphanage after her teen-age mother died of cancer. A young couple, Carl and Fay Stacey, adopted Donna. Carl had died while at work, and Stacey feared that she could not make ends meet, meaning they would go bankrupt, and was forced to put Donna up for adoption once again. The orphanage apparently exploited the children by making them work without pay. Later on, it caught fire and it was then thatWonder Woman found Donna and rescued her from the flames. Eventually Donna decided to go through with the wedding, and the marriage (in Tales of the Teen Titans #50) was a landmark issue with Hippolyta showing up to bless the ceremony.
A few years later, the Wonder Woman was relaunched. The series started with her traveling to Man's World for the first time, and was a new start for Wonder Woman, though that meant that any story happening before the relaunch wouldn't have existed - and that included Donna Troy's origin story which created the need for a new character background.
The next attempt to redefine her background occurred in a five part story arc called “Who is Wonder Girl?” Instead of being linked to directly to Wonder Woman and the Amazons, this story arc revealed she was in fact a descendant of the ancient Titans of Greek mythology. This story arc also changed Donna’s superhero name from Wonder Girl to Troia and introduced a new costume.
It is soon revealed that Donna and Terry are expecting a child. Since Donna is a goddess the child will technically become a new god. Meanwhile, the villain Monarch is attempting to corrupt the child so that it will eventually become his ally Lord Chaos. A team of future Titans is sent to the past to kill the child before it is born. This problem was later solved in that if Donna renounced her godhood and special powers, the child would be born as a normal human. Donna did so and gave birth to a son named Robert. Donna left the Titans desiring instead a regular family life. She would later regret her decision and asked for her powers back, though this was denied to her. She also became stranded in the past and Donnasearched for her husband, only to find he went back to his ex-wife, Marcia. In 2001, in a flashback issue of The Titans (#25), we see Terry filing for divorce from Donna.
Donna took the offer to join the Darkstars, an intergalactic police force who was replacing the then-defunct Green Lantern Corps. The job got offered to her in Darkstars #22 and she accepted in #23. She also had a uniform makeover and also gained new powers. Her membership with the team didn't last very long, as most story lines then centered aroundZero Hour. The New Titans got a new lineup and Darkstar Donna Troy joined with Kyle Rayner after Hal Jordan (who had become Parallax) had destroyed the Green Lantern Corps. Donna Troy also made appearances in Green Lantern and Kyle and Donna started dating in #61, which turned into a more meaningful relationship. She continued appearing in three comics: The Darkstars, The New Titans, and Green Lantern. Soon, DC Comics sales were failing, and The Darkstars stopped at #38 and The New Titans with #130. Around that time, Kyle and Donna broke up in Green Lantern #70 and in Green Lantern #74-75; Donna left the Darkstars (who had broken up around that time) to live a normal life once again.
In 1995 John Byrne took over the writing duties for Wonder Woman. At the time Donna was no longer Troia, nor did she have any direct links to the Wonder Woman or the Amazons. Donna’s publication history was still relatively vague sinceCrisis on Infinite Earths and so John Byrne decided to reintegrate her stories into the Wonder Woman continuity. After the death of Diana and her deification, Hippolyta took over the role of Wonder Woman, and traveled back in time to the 1940s where she became a member of the Justice Society of America, where she battled, among others, a villainess named Dark Angel. Dark Angel formed a hatred for Hippolyta and sought to punish her by punishing Diana. Unknown to Dark Angel though, the Amazon sorceress Magala had created a magical twin for Diana so that she might have a child her age among the Amazons. Dark Angel kidnapped Donna, thinking she was Diana and cast a spell on her in which Donna would live a tortured life, and when it ended it would start once again. Thus her entire existence as Donna Troy was but one of these lives (this was compounded by the fact that Terry and Robert had died in a car accident shortly before). After breaking the spell, Donna was left as a soulless shell, but with the aid of some of her friends who kept the knowledge of her life as a member of the Teen Titans and as Wonder Girl, her soul was returned to her. This story also served as the stepping off point for the first time in Wonder Woman history when she became a relatively active supporting character in the Wonder Woman title.
In 1999, the Titans franchise was relaunched once again, this time with the evolution of some of the original iconic members (for instance Dick Grayson had matured from Robin to Nightwing, or Aqualad to Tempest). Donna was also a member and used the costume based on a space motif. During this time Donna officially became a member of the Amazons after a visit to Themiscyra. There was still a lack of certain elements to her origin though, as her knowledge of herself was based primarily on that of Wally West. Therefore another story arc intended to define her past was launched, titled “Who is Troia?” (which used a similar name from the story arcs used to tell previous versions of her origin). Dark Angel once again turned up as the antagonist and wanted to remove Donna’s memories, but the opposite effect was achieved, as Dark Angel was beaten and more memories were returned. Despite Donna being accepted as a member of the Amazons she was (and still continues to be) sometimes regarded as an outsider meddling in the affairs of the Amazons. Her link with Diana, plus being one of only two Amazons with actual super-powers, has granted her a degree of influence that some Amazons are resentful of.
A huge company called Optitron had the Titans and Young Justice come to San Francisco where Indigo, a cyborg assassin attacked them. While the team searched for Indigo, they encountered a rogue android Superman. Donna was fighting it, and its heat vision pierced Donna's chest, killing her. Indigo would then take down the android. This death weakened the Titans and only the founding members of the Titans attended her funeral, and there they disbanded. It had an interesting epilogue however, where Donna wakens in her Troia outfit, where her costume had a hole where the android Supermanhit, but she is unharmed. In the narrative, it says this:
"She is not gone. She has just left us. She has known many lives. She will now know another."
She finds a sword and a shield and then the narrative goes once again:
"She hears the battle raging on in the distance. The sound of metal meeting metal. The perverse cries of combat. The Amazon in her stirs."
The Titans would relaunch as Teen Titans. A second book was launched as a new incarnation of DC's Outsiders in which the team was led by Nightwing and also included Indigo; both teams were formed out of Donna's death and the disbandment of the Titans and Young Justice. This story in Teen Titans/Outsiders: Secret Files 2003 had a backup story which included Donna's death. This story had the storyline "Who Was Donna Troy?" and was written and penciled by Phil Jimenez.
DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy #1 was released in August 2005 as a collector's item. This issue can be seen as honoring Donna Troy's heritage and for those who understand the "Who is Donna Troy?" storyline might understand why she survives on New Cronus. The issue begins with outer space characters and the narration tells us that "a tiny planetoid on the far side of the universe was in and of itself the deadliest weapon of all." It becomes clear that Donna is narrating the story and she remembers the other Titans team, although barely. A mixture of images go along with her narration retelling her history, at least giving an idea of it. The Titan Coeus brings Donna back to reality and she tells him that she is having these dreams of becoming mortal. Coeus tells her that these dreams are ridiculous, that she is the moon goddess. She narrates that Troia may love Coeus, but Donna does not. The Titans of Myth observe the planet below them, called Minosyss, and it is having earthquakes. Iapetus wonders why Themis isn't saving it, so Hyperion intervenes saying that this would endanger "what lies beneath the surface of Minosyss". Tethys asks why they don't stop the rebellion themselves and Oceanus interrupts her saying that "Coeus approaches -- with Troia".
Hyperion explains that the city has fallen. Hyperion takes a quick glance at Troia, and Thia knows that his husband lusts for Troia. Troia then looks for a remedy to cure her from these dreams she has been having of green-skinned Crius and Mnemosyne, the latter which is a true memory of a goddess. Coeus then begs Mnemosyne to show Troia's true place in the universe. Then, from Coeus' request, a vision comes up which shows the Titans of Myth who were the children of Uranus and Gaea. Zeus who was a Titan killed Cronus and banished the rest of the Titans to a moon called New Cronus. The Titans were infertile and Rhea, who was the wife of Cronus gave her seeds to various planets with her divine essence in them and one of the offspring included Donna Troy. Troia does not believe it but Hyperion tells her to embrace the goddess side of her. Hyperion tells her that the races throughout the universe will follow them. Troia doesn't believe this and says that "a world is going to die". Donna then starts narrating about the two other seeds in the army of the Titans of the Myth and that is scanning the area for anything religious. speaks with Hyperion who urges him that the rebels should be slaughtered. Thia wonders how Troia can defend the rebels on the planet. Troia then narrates, saying how Hyperion was always arrogant and that Thia was hateful.
As Sparta is going down to the planet to get rid of the rebels, Troia urges the Titans to intervene and is surprised at Oceanus and Tethys agreement with the Titans' plan. On the surface of the planet, Troia she sees all the dead bodies on the floor and rushes to 's defense, but it is too late, and dies. Troia urgently tells Athyns about the natives of that planet having a weapon which could destroy countless planets. Athyns does not believe her. Troia then accuses Athyns of working for the Thanagarians. Athyns retaliates, stating that Mnemosyne is swaying her opinions and then there is an explosion. What caused this or who survives is not known, though we see the Titans of Myth travel in the travelspheres on the way to Earth and transports itself to Shift in the Outsiders' headquarters. Shift attacks the travelsphere because of the recent events which happened in The Outsiders. Nightwing and Starfire defend the travelsphere. Arsenal, Jade and Arsenal’s daughter, Lian also arrive and Arsenal is about to shoot it with his arrow but he recognizes from the stories that her “aunt” told her – probably a reference to Donna Troy before her death. All of them watch, and the travelsphere opens and in there, floating, is Donna Troy. Starfire exclaims that “Donna Troy is alive!” some time later after a reunion of most of the members of the original team. Raven senses that there is something “terribly wrong” and that “Donna may no longer resemble the woman we once knew”. The group nears New Cronus in a travelsphere, and the old Titans members recognize it, but they don’t stop at New Cronus. Instead the travelsphere takes them to Minosyss which the characters don’t recognize. Kid Flash observes the landscape while Arsenal jokes that Nightwing might have to rethink quitting the Outsiders and Jade is regretful seeing as she has to tell Kyle Rayner that his ex-girlfriend is back, though Kyle Rayner was Jade’s ex-boyfriend. The rocks around them start moving, revealing that they are the inhabitants of this planet, as they have rock-like tarps over them. After a bit of fighting, Nightwing orders everyone to get into the city while Jade keeps them safe with a green wall of energy but more inhabitants attack. Athyns arrives, instructing the natives to stop attacking. Athyns eventually explains that the gods have interfered with Donna’s memories and explains that he sent the travelsphere, hoping to shock Donna and restore Donna to her senses. The Titans also hear the death of , who some of them have met. Donna then calls the natives “animals” and Arsenal, Cassie, and Jade try to get some sense into her pointing out that the natives who have been murdered were solely the Titans’ faults. Eventually Nightwing orders Raven to get inside Donna’s head. Donna is battling Cassie and then Raven surrounds Donna in a mystical smoke. Raven shows Donna the horrors of war ever since she visited this planet. Donna is shocked and Nightwing orders Cyborg and Jade to drill and blast a tunnel below the city. Cassie tackles Donna and throws her through the hole that Cyborg and Jade had created. The two fall through, eventually hitting the ground. As they get up, they find abandoned technology. Donna recalls Coeus telling her about her destiny and some weapon on this planet and now they have found it. Others arrive, and Starfire says that she recognizes this weapon and Donna does too, explaining that it is a sun-eater factory. This brings Donna to her senses and she realizes that the Titans don’t want to destroy this weapon, they want to use it. She then remembers how an alien race called the Controllers owned this planet millennia ago. The planet had natural resources which made the planet a nexus. They made the natives mine for it and manufactured this planet into a manufacturing plant. The Controllers then abandoned the planet, thinking that this was too extreme and then the natives reclaimed this planet again. The Titans of Myth then promised the natives a better life and they attacked the planet to control the planet as a nexus. After confronting the Titans of Myth Hyperion descends into the hole with Donna on his chariot and his wife Thia behind. Coeus intervenes and Donna narrates that her husband loves her, but very feebly. Wonder Girl lassos Coeus, telling him that he does not want the sun-eater. Apparently, what they need is Donna which is why Hyperion captured her. Arsenal hears this and out of his love for her, he seems intent on rescuing her. Hyperion then takes Donna and with his wife still following goes to the technology. Thia tells him that they’re not after the sun-eater factory. Hyperion starts up the technology and tells her that the planet’s status as a nexus point was what they were meant to be doing all along.
He says “a nexus point to what was once the multiverse”, making a reference to the Crisis on Infinite Earths and adds that this machine can be used to teleport them to an uncharted universe, and that Donna is the key to this. Coeus, however, is begging him to release Wonder Girl so he can beg for Donna’s forgiveness. Kid Flash yells in anger at the dead natives around him. Hyperion tells Donna that she is unique and with the word “unique”, she remembers the multiverse before the Crisis on Infinite Earths. On Earth-One, she was saved from a fire by Wonder Woman and then was raised as an Amazon and became Wonder Girl. She joined the Teen Titans and married Terry Long. On Earth-Two, she was raised in an orphanage after Wonder Woman saved her. On Earth-S, she died in the fire, and on Earth-Seven, she was actually saved by the Anti-Monitor and she became his assistant called Dark Angel, who fled reality before the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Donna also points out she was Wonder Girl before wonder Woman even existed. Donna narrates how “this new universe didn’t quite know what to do with some of the more complicated holdovers from the multiverse”, in which she was taking the blame off the writers. Her history was a confusing one as it was always changed. After another conflict with the Titans of Myth, Donna continues to narrate the story, telling that the Titans and the Outsiders returned home while she remains on New Cronus. Wonder Woman then appears and embraces Donna. Though she seems joyous, she is just hiding her sad destiny of “sacrifice”, which is a reference to Wonder Woman’s murder of Maxwell Lord during the “Sacrifice” crossover. Wonder Woman has a gift for Donna: Harbinger’s orb, which was used to record the history of the universe. Donna then starts recalling how in her past life, as Dark Angel she was supposed to be Harbinger in the role for the Monitor’s assistant. Her role as Harbinger and Dark Angel shows her status towards the link to the multiverse as “keeper of mystery and knowledge”. Donna updates the orb with her own life and then she has to file the information of the post-Crisis universe. The orb then begins projecting the future and this makes Donna realize that something is wrong. “I saw why the gods wanted to escape this universe so badly”, she narrates and continues. “I see old friends returning, but also death. I see the end of everything, coming far too quickly. And it is terrible.” The issue finishes on her saying that she needs help again and goes recruiting.
With this, Donna discovers a new and dangerous threat, but is unclear to what it is and goes recruiting her closet friends and other allies to help her defeat the unknown threat.
There would probably be a good amount of confusion, however, as it would have been expected that there would be crossovers into other series or maybe a crossover in a crossover, as this also reintroduces Donna into the DC Universe. However, these issues in which Donna Troy should be featured hardly feature her at all. There are a few lines dedicated to Donna, and there are a few other confusing aspects in this storyline as where Donna recruits. There is hardly a sense of continuity, as maybe the heroes from The Return of Donna Troy would have returned and what she’s been doing between that storyline and now is also unclear. Some superheroes also managed to fly to New Cronus. It must have somehow come closer to Earth for superheroes to do so.
With this four part series, Donna Troy feels guilty for dragging her friends into conflict once again, as she had already done so by endangering her friends when they battled the Titans of Myth. She begins the search for her friends. She knows that they will accept her offer, but she feels guilty for doing so. Donna begins narrating and the themes are reflected with the "Who is Donna Troy?" storyline. Some of her narrating is in third person, but it is not a mistake. It shows how far apart she feels from herself. Her narration tells us that New Cronus is nearing Earth, and she is searching for recruits to help her defeat the new threat that she has discovered. Donna thinks about how she is going to put her loved ones in danger again. She narrates that they have done so much for her and now she's asking them to do it again. This triggers a montage of a time line, where she sees the Titans when they were still teenagers and they have grown up, battling dangerous threats.
Donna summons Harbinger's orb and uses it to see how her friends are doing. Apparently, the ending of The Return of Donna Troy was rushed so she didn't get to meet with her friends. She watches when she was killed by the Superman android and watches her own funeral. It hurts her to see this. She then watches Arsenal and Nightwing argue about the direction of the Teen Titans and Nightwing formed a new team called the Outsiders. The new team would recruit complete strangers so that all emotional ties would be cut, but Donna can see that Nightwing still cares. Time passes, and there are new and old recruits and the Outsiders and Teen Titans are still connected even though they are on opposite sides of the continent. She narrates how hurt she feels when she needs to put her friends through this and she says that she can take the guilt. But then it comes back says it's not "going anywhere". She orders the orb to show her friends during present time and this shows the beginning of the first story.
The first story is the Joker's daughter. The second focuses on the Titans, their connection to the Joker's daughter, and the third story is from the past around the "Insiders" storyline where they were rushed into space to help Donna in the Return of Donna Troy. Donna gets a chill, but not from a cold, but the fact that her friends will agree to helping her on this dangerous mission. She grips the terrace so hard that it breaks and she says that she will ask them because she knows they'll agree.
In JSA #77, the Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Alan Scott follow Airwave into space where they find New Cronus. Hal Jordan tries to break into New Cronus, but Donna appears, stopping him. She tells them of a new unknown threat and that she's recruiting some heroes to help her stop it. Airwave agrees to help and so does Alan Scott. The opening of this issue shows Airwave flying through the air, barely missing an airplane and holds his hands over his ears to try and block out the various thoughts the people are thinking on the plane. One balloon refers to the OMACs with "...goes another one of them robot things in the sky, right over the lake..." and two referring to the Rann-Thanagar War with "...move out, Vath! For Rann!" and "...have Komand'r of Tamaran in custody..." Then it goes to the JSA HQ where many of the team members have been cut down. Atom Smasher has been sent to prison and Captain Marvel is busy chasing after a maddenedSpectre. Power Girl is yet to be seen after "she ditched her second physical." Doctor Fate was attacked by the Spectre andJakeem Thunder disappeared ever since the same battle with the Spectre, while Hourman is looking for Doctor Fate and Jay Garrick is recovering from his battle with Zoom. Mr. Terrific has heard that villains from all over have been gathering, and he suggests that they should call in reserve members. Then, Airwave comes crashing through the roof the headquarters.
Meanwhile, in Texas, Hal Jordan is battling Wade Eiling, who was a former US general but was turned into a supervillain by Grant Morrison during his JLA run. Hal then talks to the US Army and they tell him that Eiling was after another commander for payback about him testifying at Eiling's trial. Hal then gets a call from Alan Scott and tells him that Airwave is in trouble. Hal flies back to the headquarters. Dr. Mid-Nite says that Airwave is somehow storing electromagnetic signals like energy. Airwave suddenly sits up and floats upwards and puts his hands over his ears again. Hal and Alan try to keep him down, but they are unsuccessful. He receives more signals about the OMACs and the Rann/Thanagar War so he flies out and uses his power to zap what looks like Times Square in New York City and he bounces off an enormous TV screen causing rubble to fall down below. Alan and Hal use their powers to catch the rubble. Hal's ring tells him that he's flying at the speed of light and he is outside the city. He bounces off a large antenna complex and Hal and Alan are doing their best to try and keep up with him, cleaning up the damage when they can. Alan asks Hal if he knows where he's going or if this has ever happened to him before, but Hal doesn't know.
Airwave is still hearing transmissions and suddenly he explodes with energy. His explosion had just caused Houston’s electronics to disable. He heads to a satellite dish and flies up into space and he is still hearing transmissions from everywhere. For some strange reason, New Cronus is hovering around another planet even though the three heroes have passed the moon and it is definitely not Mars. New Cronus has probably dragged a planet with it, but the heroes have not managed to notice it. The unknown planet turns out to be Minosyss, where the sun-eater machine was found. The reason why there was such a mystery was that apparently, the penciler, Jim Fern failed to recognize that New Cronus was a small moon with buildings on it instead of the nearby Minosyss. The editors can be blamed for not fixing this up, but Fern has done a good job rendering it, adding to the confusion. Fern instead may have been drawing Minosyss. Airwave then recognizes New Cronus saying that the messages he keeps receiving are from there. Airwave says he can hear many cries of help, in alien languages as he can’t understand them. He says that they are coming from a war, in which regular readers would know it, it being the Rann/Thanagar War. Hal sees New Cronus being the source of all this and Airwave says it isn’t, yet Hal still fires at the planet. Then, Donna comes bursting out blocking Hal’s ray yet there is not background image in that panel, so it’s unknown whether he hit it or not. Alan recognizes Donna and recognizes the both of them as well. She tells Hal of his time as Parallax, a villain, and he has a hard time dealing with it. Alan says that he has heard of Donna’s death, but she feels that she was “taken away” rather than calling it “dying”. Donna then goes on to tell how the Titans of Myth have gone away from this planet and she says what her mission is, and that is to “… travel to the center of it [the universe] and confront whatever it is they've prophesied”, and tells how she is now recruiting. Airwave volunteers, but Hal says that he shouldn’t be seeing that he doesn’t seem ready for this in his state, but Donna explains that they can use Airwave to follow these signals. Alan says he’ll come along and look after Airwave. Hal asks Airwave if he is ready for this and Airwave confidently says yes.
As Donna and Airwave fly towards the assumed New Cronus, Hal has a word with Alan and says that Airwave is a part of his family but Alan encourages Hal to make a place in his own family. Then “elsewhere” Doctor Fate wakes besides his wife, Lyta, and he sees snow-covered mountains in every direction. He has no idea where Spectre sent him.
In Teen Titans #29, Donna goes to contact the team and Cyborg agrees to go with Donna into space with Beast Boy left in charge of the team. Starfire, Bumblebee, and Mal are apparently already with Donna. Wonder Girl witnesses the murder of Maxwell Lord on television which happened before Infinite Crisis #1, and Superboy is shown reacting to the news. In this issue, most of it is centered around Red Hood’s attack on Robin (Tim Drake). In the Batman story arc "Under the Hood", Red Hood had been revealed to be a resurrected Jason Todd, who was Robin before Tim and was killed by the Joker. Tim is then left unconscious and he’s found by the Titans, including Donna. This sets up the next two issues where the Titans confront the Blood Brothers, who cause many come back to life. There isn’t much Donna, as mentioned before, but it is vital as it shows the recruitment of Cyborg and many other heroes.
Near the end of Outsiders #30, Donna helps them defeat a demon called Sabbac and after the defeat of the demon, Arsenal and Donna hug like good friends do, and she tells them about an unknown threat and that she needs help. This scene continues in the issue of Outsiders #31. She tells them about how the universe it at stake and that she only wants to recruit Starfire, Jade, Shift, Captain Marvel and Junior. They fly off with Donna and then the issue jumps forward in time. It could be also noted that Starfire was already recruited in Teen Titans #29 and this occurs before Infinite Crisis #1 and obviously, it was before Outsiders #30-31, but this can be easily ignored.
At the end of JLA #122, she only has a few words in there near the end, but it continues into JLA #123 where Donna explains that she is recruiting, and Green Arrow is very suspicious of her. Supergirl volunteers and says that she has heard good things about Donna from Wonder Woman (Wonder Woman had helped Supergirl train on Paradise Island). Red Tornado also volunteers. Green Arrow protests, but Donna says she only needs the most powerful and flies off.
Donna appears next in Wonder Woman #222, Wonder Woman turns herself in at the Hague where she is on trial for the murder of Maxwell Lord. Supergirl and Donna arrive and Donna asks Wonder Woman to come to space with them, but she refuses because of her dedication to showing herself as subject to the law. Donna and Supergirl argue against Wonder Woman, but they leave on good terms. Wonder Woman then battles against Cheetah before the OMACs attack Paradise Island. Donna doesn’t do any recruiting here, but it is important to establish a reason why Wonder Woman could not help out Donna.
In Firestorm #19, Firestorm is with Firehawk (a friend of the previous Firestorm (Ronnie Raymond)) asks him to come to Titans Tower. There, Firestorm meets Donna and she explains that she is recruiting and that Firehawk recommended him, then introduces them to Starfire, Jade, and Shift. When Firehawk allows him to go with Donna, an epilogue hints about the upcoming events in Firestorm #20-21. In this issue, this establishes that Donna has been using the Titans Tower for recruiting. Also, Starfire, Jade, and Shift are seen bringing a laser which Donna requested. From that, it seems that the heroes were not flying into space but to the Titans Tower. In Infinite Crisis #2, they are on New Cronus, showing that the Titans Tower was used for a way station.
In Infinite Crisis #2, it shows Animal Man on New Cronus, where most of team is on, and shows the conclusion of her recruitment. The first page is for Animal Man, where he says goodbye to his family and observes how his powers are unreliable and arrives on New Cronus. Cyborg greets Animal Man and takes him to meet Donna. Animal Man doesn’t know where they are going, suggesting that he was probably recruited as a second-hand backup. Donna explains how the threat is in the center of the universe. Red Tornado notes that the ship's – or the planet's – navigational systems have changed because of the threat. Apparently, New Cronus has traveled to the centre of the universe and found it has changed, though why this happens is not really explained. It’s also unclear why the ship would recalibrate now considering that the rift opened in The Rann/Thanagar War #6 which was near Infinite Crisis #1 though the ship probably wasn’t recalibrated until the end of Donna Troy’s recruitment. This also shows that Donna does not know what she is up against, that it is just some threat that lies in the centre. Airwave reacts to alien sounds in his head but he’s not sure how to describe it. The sequence allows readers to acknowledge that Animal Man has been recruited and establishes the main characters, including some of their personalities and relationships.
Donna led her group of heroes to New Cronus to deal with a rip in space caused by Alexander Luthor Jr. They tried to fight Luthor, but this results in some casualties, including the death of Jade and several other members who went missing. Donna also procured a red sun-eater in order to defeat Superboy-Prime. Following the events of the Infinite Crisis, Donna returned to New Cronus where she analyzed the history of the universe as it had been recorded in Harbinger's old Universe Orb (this took place in back-up features in the second to eleventh issues of 52).
One Year Later, Donna Troy has assumed the mantle of Wonder Woman. Diana stepped down following the Crisis, feeling the need to "find out who she really is". Although Diana's pre-Crisis on Infinite Earths Silver Age career has been brought back into continuity afterInfinite Crisis, Donna's post-Infinite Crisis origin seems to be essentially the same as her post-Crisis on Infinite Earths one. Wonder Woman #1 opens with Donna stating: "I was born of magic", and the character is shown standing at a distance beside the Amazon Magala at the time of Diana's departure from Themyscira. Donna is referred to as Diana's biological sister throughout (Donna's original Silver Age backstory depicted her as having been brought to Themyscira later in her life, and not being related to Diana). In a flashback, Donna wears her star-spangled Titan garments (which she also wears in the History of the DC Universe portions of 52 #2-11). In the present timeline of Wonder Woman #1, the only sign of her Titan regalia is a bracelet that forms part of her Wonder Woman armor.
In the midst of a fight with Cheetah and Giganta, Donna is overwhelmed when Doctor Psycho manipulates her into believing that Diana is attacking her with deadly force. At the same time, Diana, posing as a government agent, arrives on the scene. Subsequent issues have shown Diana's attempts to rescue Donna, with the revelation that Circe is behind the attacks and capture.
Donna works alongside her ex-boyfriend, Kyle Rayner, who has taken up the powers and title of Ion again. They go up against one of the Monitors who attempts to remove them from the newly rebuilt timestream, claiming the two are unwanted anomalies. Donna returns to earth with Ion in time for him to say good-bye to his dying mother.
After that event, Donna joins several former Teen Titans in the current team's battle against Deathstroke and his Titans East team.
Donna would later attend Duela Dent's funeral with the Teen Titans. After Duela's burial, she was confronted by Jason Todd, who sought her out as a kindred spirit. She repeatedly ran into the helpful Jason while trying to investigate Duela's murder. Her investigation was put on hold once she discovered the Amazons had invaded Washington, D.C. as part of the events of Amazons Attack!. She travels to the city and confronts the recently revivedHippolyta to put a stop to the invasion.
Once Hippolyta informed her that she would consider a withdrawal only if Donna could include Diana in the peace talks, Donna left to find her sister only to discover that Jason Todd had followed her to Washington as well. Jason told Donna that he believed the Monitors were responsible for Duela's death but before anything else could be done, both warriors were attacked by the Monitor's aide, Forerunner. They were consequently saved by the seemingly benevolent"Bob" the Monitor, and were recruited to help locate Ray Palmer (who had been missing since the events of Identity Crisis). Their journey took them across the great of the expanse of the new Multiverse whereupon they were also joined by Donna’s former boyfriend Kyle Rayner (now a Green Lantern once again) as well as Ray Palmer’s successor, Ryan Choi.
This loose confederation of adventurers became known as the Challengers from Beyond. After several haphazard missions in the Nanoverse, they eventually found Palmer in the parallel reality known as Earth-51. Shortly thereafter, their colleague Bob the Monitor betrayed them and Earth-51 was soon destroyed as a result of the Morticoccus virus. With Palmer in tow, the Challengers eventually returned to their home dimension. Donna, Jason, Ryan, Ray, and Kyle agreed that with the growing individuality of the fifty-two existing Monitors, there was too much room for corruption. They all agreed to serve as a watchdog group in order to "Monitor the Monitors."
Returning to Earth, Donna reunited with her old teammates, the Titans. The group re-formed after discovering that the children of one of their deadliest foes, Trigon, had been systematically hunting down members of the Titans both old and new. Upon re-joining her original team, Donna adopted a new costume which was intended to be a synthesis of her black costume and her classic red Wonder Girl costume, being black with two rows of red stars going down the front. This costume proved to be unpopular with fans, and Donna soon reverted to wearing her previous starry-night costume.
In the storyline of Blackest Night, Donna was attacked by zombiefied Black Lanternversions of her son, Robert, and her ex-husband, Terry, who had both been killed in a car crash years earlier. After the battle, it was revealed that Donna had been bitten by one of the Black Lanterns and was slowly turning into one of them. Later on in this event, Donna became a Black Lantern herself, as did other fully-alive heroes who had once experienced death. Donna Troy was one of the previously resurrected heroes like Hal and Barry who became a White Lantern in order to resurrect Black Hand and sever Nekron's tether to earth.
After Blackest Night and Cry For Justice, Donna became an active member of the Justice League of America.

Status
Donna Troy's powers have changed as often as her history, though she has nearly always possessed some degree of superhuman strength, endurance, speed, and flight. The level of her power has also varied, depending on her incarnation. Donna was saved by the Titans of Myth Gods, and they granted Donna powers and abilities. When Donna was revealed to be a magical duplicate of Wonder Woman all her powers and abilities grew to that of Wonder Woman's level of power. Now Donna is said to be just a little less then what her sister is in the form of raw power. Donna's Powers do not come from the Olympian Gods but from the Titans of Myth Gods.
For a short time she was a member of the Black Lantern Corps with all the powers that it bestowed.
Flight; she is also able to move to New Cronus, her current home, and she is in possession of travelspheres, objects used by Sparta, another Titan Seed, which seem very small but are actually very large on the inside. They travel extremely quickly and are controlled by thought.
As Wonder Woman, Donna used a sword and lasso. Donna often uses a staff of Amazon origin for sparing. Currently, Donna wields the Lasso of Persuasion.
This early cartoon featuring DC's classic characters was Donna's first known animated appearance, as Wonder Girl when the original Teen Titans guest-starred on the show. Julie Bennett provided her voice.
A Wonder Girl character clearly based on Donna Troy appeared in three episodes of the live-action 1970's television series, played by actress Debra Winger. Her name was changed to "Drusilla," since it was decided that Donna sounded too much like Diana, which could confuse viewers. She was introduced as Diana's younger sister in the episode The Feminine Mystique (Part 1), and wore a Wonder Girl uniform that combined the familiar star-crossed red tank top with the blue briefs of the very first Wonder Girl uniform. Unlike in the comics, she wore a tiara much like Wonder Woman's. She reappeared in the episodes The Feminine Mystique (Part 2) and Wonder Woman in Hollywood. Wonder Girl had virtually the same powers as Wonder Woman, though she was shown to be less skilled at using them. Three decades later, this character made a brief comic book appearance as the Earth-462 Wonder Girl in Infinite Crisis #6.
Donna Troy was not shown to be a regular member of the Cartoon Network series, since the creators of the series did not have the rights to use her character. However, she made unnamed cameo appearances in the episodes Homecoming Part 2 and Calling All Titans. In Homecoming, the Brotherhood of Evil displayed all of the Teen Titans on computer screens, and a version of Wonder Girl appeared on one screen. The girl was claimed to be "an unnamed dark-haired female." Later, in Calling All Titans, this Wonder Girl appeared as one of the reserve Titans that Robin called in to help battle the Brotherhood.
Donna also appeared in the non-canon comic book based on the animated series, which was published by DC and therefore not restricted from using her character. She first appeared in her own feature story in issue #36, which was aptly named Troy and co-starred all of the founding members of the Titans. Her hair was done up in a long ponytail and she wore a miniskirt version of the classic red Wonder Girl uniform.
Donna Troy was depicted in Young Justice Episode Secrets.
Donna appears as a main character in the series of animated shorts. She is voiced by Grey DeLisle.
