Here's hoping I like it more! Clara has been the worst companion since the reboot IMO and Moffat was much better suited to writing single/double episode arcs back when Davies was showrunner I think. But I'll remain optimistic... or try to at least.

I, too, am not a fan of Clara.

In cinemas? Is it getting a theatrical release? Or is that just British talk for "TV"?

@the_stegman: I haven't heard if it's getting a theatrical release or not, but I'm British and "in cinemas" does not mean "on TV", so, I don't know.

This show's quality has taken a nose dive the last couple of seasons. Here's hoping Clara isn't written like total garbage/is actually used well this season.

I really don't like Clara, like everyone else seemingly haha. But I like Capaldi and it's nice to have an older Doctor again.

Looking forward to it to, most interested to see Capaldi's take on it as I was never a fan of Matt Smith.

@the_stegman: The season premier is getting a limited theatrical run, the same way they did for the 50th anniversary special.

I second that. Basically all the other incarnations we've seen of Clara (the version of her that thought she was a dalek, the version of her from victorian times) have had more of a personality in their single appearances than the main Clara has had in all her appearances. If you asked me to point out Clara's identifying traits, I don't think I'd be able to. Its like they spent so much time thinking about the concept for her character, that they completely skipped over developing Clara herself as a person.

The worst part is they had the perfect opportunity to do something interesting with Clara in the 50th anniversary special and they didn't take it. The whole concept of Clara is that a version of her is supposed to appear to each incarnation of The Doctor to help and save him in his hour of need. It seems like such a natural fit that she'd be the companion that guided John Hurt's Doctor in his most critical hour, but nope, instead they plug in an illogical Rose Tyler cameo (except it wasn't actually Rose Tyler at all, and Billie Piper was basically only brought in for fan service and misleading marketing). What a waste.

The trailer's a bit meh, but I'm looking forward to the new series.

Can't remember her name, but I do love the Victorian-era, samurai sword wielding, lesbian, lizard woman, hope she's shown more often.

Clara and Donna imo are the worst to companions of the reboot. I really hope Capaldi's doctor is more like the 3rd (Pertwee's my favorite doctor of all time).

@lagozzino: Totally agree that her guest spots were WAY better than her as a companion. And while I also agree that they did a bait and switch for the 50th Anni episode, I'm glad Moffat didn't try to come up with some b.s. to go to the alternate reality with Rose and human 10th.

    @dngn4774:

Donna > Martha, in my opinion.

12 is indeed very reminiscent of 3 visually, so maybe you'll get your wish (:

@timelordscience: To me Martha has just been a lamer version of Rose (which is not bad considering Rose=awesome), but Donna's personality made it impossible for me to enjoy her episodes.

@dngn4774: At least Donna had a personality. Martha was just a lovesick puppy, the way I saw it.

I thought the "Turn Left" episode was great.

@dngn4774: @timelordscience: My thoughts exactly. Martha's entire personality was "Not Rose". Her season arc was pretty much just coming to terms with the fact that the Doctor isn't into her because he's still stuck on Rose. She didn't really exist as an independent character, so much as she was just an extension of the Doctor and Rose's storyline. IMO, she only started to develop an actual personality post-Season 3 (ie: her guest spots in Season 4, and her little run on Torchwood, though her little epilogue in The End Of Time special sorta shat all over said development... but I digress).

Donna was abrasive and easy to dislike (I personally loved her, but I can definitely see how someone would hate her), but at least she was written as a person with a defined personality who had thoughts and feelings completely unrelated to the Doctor.

And yes, I think "Turn Left" is easily one of the best episodes of the revived show.

@lagozzino: "Turn Left" is good but my all time fav still has to be "Dalek" from season one. Eccleston knocked it out of the park. It's a shame they had to flood the series with Daleks and Cyberman over and over again in the recurring seasons. Don't get me wrong they're great villains, it just makes the stories seem lazier when they get overused. Hopefully the Dalek episodes will be good, I just wish the twelfth had a better companion to share those adventures with than Clara.
