If there’s any one celebrity who wouldn’t need to change her image to fit in on a sci-fi show, whose image might even be too out-of-this-world for science fiction… it’s Lady Gaga. So the recent rumor relayed by the Coventry Telegraph that she could be playing a new villain on DOCTOR WHO really doesn’t sound that far out of the question. I’ve never been a WHO devotee, myself, but I’d definitely be intrigued to watch an episode to see her matching wits and weirdness with the Doctor.
Unfortunately, the Telegraph also reports that this rumor seems to have arisen out of a press-fueled game of telephone (appropriate, I’d say, given the title of Gaga’s latest single.) Gareth Roberts, one of the current show’s writers, made some cheeky comments to DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE about how he’d written a script that could be an episode eventually or, in lieu of that, “an audio play in 2030, guest-starring Lady Gaga, who will have fallen on hard times.” People talk about British humor getting lost when taken across the pond, but it seems Roberts' joke didn't need to go that far to get misinterpreted by some Brit magazine as signifying that Gaga would actually appear on the show. Apparently something similar happened with Amy Winehouse a couple years ago. == TEASER ==
Ah well… I still say it’d be interesting to see. Maybe the buzz from the rumors will actually get it to happen.
I’m kind of surprised that Gaga hasn’t dabbled in comics to any extent yet. The videos for "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" are already just as provocatively surreal as any comic in Heavy Metal. She’s probably k-kinda bizay. In the meantime, Blue Water is putting out its FAME: LADY GAGA biography comic (along with FAME: ROBERT PATTINSON) this week.
