With Christopher Eccleston being replaced by David Tennant on TV, this annual came a lenticular cover, which had Eccleston's Doctor change into Tennant's, depending on the angle it was viewed at. The previous annual had been produced by Panini, and was aimed at a readership similar to that of Panini's Doctor Who Magazine, but this and subsequent annuals were published by BBC Books via Penguin and aimed at a younger audience, more in line with the BBC's recently launched Doctor Who Adventures, with fewer stories and comic strips (one reprinted from DWA), and more features and games. Panini meanwhile produced the complimentary Doctor Who Storybook, an annual in all but name, composed completely of, as the title suggests, text and comic strip stories.
