Marvel Studios Negotiating with Jon Spaihts to Write Doctor Strange Film

Posted by inferiorego (21246 posts) - - Show Bio

In an exclusive with Deadline, it was announced that Marvel is currently in negotiations to get Jon Spaihts to write the upcoming Doctor Strange film. Spaihts is known for currently writing the upcoming The Mummy reboot as well as being the first writer for the Prometheus. The film has been in development hell for quite some time, and back in 2010, Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer were both hired on to write the film.

However, it seems as though this film's ducks are finally in a row, as Scott Derrickson signed on to direct the film at the beginning of June. In addition, Deadline reports they have a "short list of actors" which includes Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch. There's also rumors of Jared Leto on that list as well.

What does Spaihts have to say about this?

It seems like Doctor Strange will be in good hands. Well, at least better functioning hands than Dr. Stephen Strange.

Although, Jon Spaihts is not the best screenwriter, I'm sure Marvel knows exactly what they are doing. I trust them. In conclusion: …

I'm pretty happy.

I was secretly hoping Doc Hammer would be attached to this project, but I agree it needs to be more creepy with less kooky.

Needs to be a more serious hero, which is why they better stay the freak away from Depp and pick someone like Cumberbatch.

...what?

Has anyone seen Promethus? It sucks.

This is not that great of a report, if true.

@fallschirmjager: Spaihts wrote the first draft of Prometheus which everyone, except for David Lindelof, seems to think was a much better script.

Much better than crap is mediocrity. I'd give him the benefit of the doubt if he had any other works that were good.

He doesn't. The Darkest Hour is also a bad film.

@flameboy298: Not trying to be. I really don't want to see Cumberbatch in the role. Hardy would be better.
