Doctor Norton attempts to preserve the comatose Joe Ledger (Doctor Spectrum)'s life as his government minders come up with a new plan to rouse him by bringing Mark Milton (Hyperion) in contact with the alien crystal embedded in his arm. The skulduggery doesn't stop there though, secret plans and affairs between staff percolate at the medical facility.
Meanwhile, Joe and the crystal continue their battle for control by reliving his memories. Joe is beaten by his stepfather, teased and attacked by schoolmates.
When the government feeds a copy of Mark Milton's brainwaves into the crystal, Joe Ledger witnesses Hyperion's origin, youth, and possible plans to take over the world for its own good. The crystal reacts strangely, and redoubles its efforts to take control over Joe's mind and memories. Joe reacts by burning down the memory of his unhappy childhood home.
