Cycles
I was able to pick up all four issues of this series and will be reading and reviewing them in order. This first issue has us finding Fate in a battle with the minions of Typhon. During the battle Fate is taken back to face the Lords of Order. Interesting... the Lords of Order are telling him to give it up, throw in the towel, he's not going to win, that chaos is going to rule. Of course, Nabu/Fate refuse to believe this or give in to it (that's our hero spirit!). I did like how that played out. How they Lords of Order tried to reason with Nabu and realize he's fighting a losing battle.
We also see a broken and beaten (on the verge of washed up) hero. He's been used by Nabu and is worn out. I like how his spirit is willing, but he can't continue as Fate. I thought about, wow, this is what happens to a hero when they can't "deliver" anymore.
We are also introduced to Eric Strauss. He's a boy and gets taken shaken up by the minions of chaos. Lost his mind enough that he's sent to Arkham and under the watchful eye of Dr. Benjamin Stoner. He's a psychiatrist that has embraced chaos. A looney in charge of the looney bin. Bad combination there.
I did like how this first part of the story flowed. We were introduced to an aging hero and to his replacement. All the while, chaos is getting a stronger hold. There were a lot of analogies to current life... the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket, chaos is slowly taking control, we are losing order. We could use Dr. Fate today.
