So I don't read many comics with Dr. Doom in them, I stick to the X side of the Marvel U.

But I was wondering what does Doom's Armor do other than protection, added strngth/invulnerability, ie Iron man's suit has alot of bells and whistles, why doesn't Dooms? Has it ever? Does it maybe have mystical powers? Has it ever had any bells and whistles in the past?

p.s. I know the suit hides his scarred/deformed face, but surely it has other purposes, he's a genious right?

It has a freakishly strong forcefield that can take shots from the Thing. It also fired powerful concussion blasts.
