So Shane black is finally starting that Doc Savage movie he's been wanting to do for years . I think he'll knock it out the park and I like how Black is keeping the 30's - 40's setting. However, it leaves me thinking about some of the things the good Doctor and his pals got up to that aren't exactly ok by modern ethical standards.
Is Black going to leave them in? I mean this guy writes neo-noir films and action movies. He's not known to stray away from the murkier side of life in his scripts, if you will? So would he tackle Doc Savage's penchant for performing mind altering brain surgery on the unwilling criminals he's captured? Or the occasional racist/misogynistic 'good old days' moment that occurs even in the new Doc Savage stories still coming out today?
Or even one of Doc's stranger habits. That weird noise he makes when he's worked up (trilling?). Think Black should keep that in? If he does decide to run with these things. On film and from a modern context. Doc is in danger of looking like an invasive lunatic with a surgical addiction and offensive views on gender/race. Who seems to unconsciously hum loudly when excited or under pressure. Not a great look to be perfectly honest.
What do you think?
