i think batman would have spiraled downward into darkness and that alone would affect the rest of dc. then there's the loss of nightwing from the teen titans, so it would have a big affect on dc.

but there are other characters whose deaths would be even more important

the funny thing is that if you say

"DC killed the original robin" everyone, even if they didn't read comics will want to know how.

But if you say

Batman woudl break down, and he would either give up crime fighting or adopt more permanant methods of dealing with his foes.
Across the DCU memorials would be held for Nightwing, and his statues would be built in the TT's hall of fame......

....blah blah blah.. DC would loose thousands of readers and have to scrap a well-selling solo series...

And one other, but hardly the least, repercussion'd be where a Coriander leaf finally became serious n gave in to a windy wintry grave.. with dreams of re-awakening to a balmy spring in the afterlife re-bonded with her once-Robin.

..Else, said Coriander was indecisive as ever and just drifted away to nothingness.. n hell.

I think perhaps Tim would have taken Dick's place...at least after the events of Battle for the Cowl. However, it appears that Tim was not good enough to win the cowl, so perhaps Jason would have taken over for a few months. That would have been an interesting scenario.

I'm guessing Batman would have gone crazy, finally broken his vow not to kill, and would have drawn the wrath of the other members of the superhero community.

If that's true I sincerely hope Dick never dies.
