As the first Robin, Dick Grayson was the most famous sidekick in comic book history. As he ventured forth on his own, he formed the Teen Titans and became their leader. When the boy became a man, he became the independent hero known as Nightwing.
@blackhawk000111: It's a nod to his Robin days plus it's suppose to fit in with the Black and Red theme of other characters. Batman Beyond, Batwoman.......I'm surprised Batwing didn't go the same way.
Well in the Future's End tie-in, he's supposed to be Russia's greatest superhero (because he didn't resemble Winter Soldier/Black Widow enough already) so that's why the red is there and it makes sense. But maybe we should ask Tim Seeley or Mikel Janin on twitter for clarification for the second one.
@blackhawk000111: Honestly I think this is a bad move. Nightwing should be his ultimate/signature form. It's what he graduated to when he stopped being Robin. Tim or Todd would be better suited for the spy thing.
