just wondering
Dick Grayson
Character » Dick Grayson appears in 9486 issues.
As the first Robin, Dick Grayson was the most famous sidekick in comic book history. As he ventured forth on his own, he formed the Teen Titans and became their leader. When the boy became a man, he became the independent hero known as Nightwing.
Is he ever going to get the costume upgrade ?
This is been my burning question for months now. His suit is too plain. He lacks a utility belt, holsters for his escrima sticks, and gliders. Possibly more. Stuffing everything into his gauntlets is unrealistic and impractical. He doesn't even have a headquarters, operating from an apartment room and Dick tossing his costume on floor like it's nothing(it really is) just goes to show you it's prestige. I think his utility belt should look like Earth 2 Robin's. Even better, the Batman Beyond capsule belt on the bottom right. If I had to color them I'd choose a shiny jet black to match the suit, for the belt buckle I'd use the batman beyond type with the red circle in the middle and color the outer rim a glossy black not silver.
I hope that Nightwing upgrades his suit and in the process switches back to blue. Having all the former robins wear a red/black color scheme takes away from Dick's identity of going solo without Bruce's help.
As for his base, I hope he does something similar to what Tim Drake did in the pre-reboot Red Robin series. Come to think of it, if Tim is not using his bunker in the abandoned movie theater next to crime alley that may be a good place for Dick to hole up. He could also establish a bunker in the fair grounds where the circus was when his parents died (depending on how far away from Gotham this area is)

I liked the warehouse spot Haly signed over to Dick before Saiko burned it down. It was a clear contrast to Bruce's cave.. above ground and tucked away in the woods, it was a storage place containing all of the circus memorabilia. Too bad it wasn't near Gotham. I wish Dick built another one near a fairgrounds in Gotham and operated from there.
I think they should that they should bring back the blue, combine his current costume with his arkham city and young justice costume. And he will look AWESOME(again with the BLUE bird not the RED bird)
@Batmandemon23: I know some people don't like the bird emblem, I do but I guess it apparently makes him look silly. My problem lies in the plainness of his costume. Its a dark leotard with a long red/blue stripe running through the middle. It's uninspiring. The blue bird logo gives him an iconic vibe, people will remember the bat symbol and instantly contrast it with Nightwing's bluejay(?) through simple context. Young Justice Nightwing looks clean as hell.
@SmoothJammin: I agree with you on the plainness of his costume. It makes no sense because there is no way he can keep dodging bullets with his abcrobatics.
The blue and black looked solid. If his lenses glowed a light blue hue like Batwing's it would've been ideal.
@SmoothJammin: I don't know, I think that in creating his own solo identity the goal was to be "not Bruce". Plus, I think the lack of a lot of armor or a utility belt (the plainness you commented on), is more a homage to his roots as an acrobat. It's suppose to be simplistic and less bulky. Same for the lack of an official HQ. Batman was the millionaire playboy with a high-tech cave for brooding. Dick operates from an apartment because that's all he needs. He doesn't need all of Batman's prestige.
No. No. No. The utter sleekness and simplicity of this muscle-hugging, fire-engine red and glistening black unitard sets my loins on fire. Is it possible for a middle-aged comic book groupie to have a bad crush on a two-dimensional boy she grew up watching (who never did grow up to be as old as he should be by now)?
Oops, TMI - sorry.
Anyway, no. He's not Bruce. He doesn't need all Bruce's crap.
I wonder if readers in the 80's were arguing about Discowing's suit not having paraphernalia like people are now. To be fair the old costume did have gadgets stored in it's gauntlets. Same argument can still be posed however
I think his costume looks perfect, though I do prefer black and blue over black and red. Also, finger stripes=WIN.
Upgrade?.No..His.costume.is.still.unique.and.classy,.even.without.the.awesome.fingerstripes.and.blue.color.
Also:.the.arm.and.calf.gauntlets.just.about.equal.a.utility.belt.in.surface.area.
But.where.the.Escrima.sticks.go.is.a.mystery...in.Tomasi's.run.they.attached.to.his.back
What.he.did.need:.the.return.of.a.base.of.operations,.which.I.think.was.what.theyre.going.for.in.Nightwing10
And.a.highpowered,.armored,.motorcycle.would.just.be.dope.to.me
I.miss.the.blue.and.black,.but.the.red.doesnt.bother.me.as.much.as.it.used.to.
The escrima sticks lock into his gauntlets, when he presses a button they eject like projectiles or something. You can see in the first issue when he's fighting the ugly mook how they're concealed underneath his wrists. I get that he doesn't want to be like Batman so he kills the cape but a utility belt is tradition! Every vigilante should wear one. The old school gauntlets were fine, there's just no way these current ones can equip so much gadgetry to carry along on missions. So he fits all his wingdings in those? Seriously!? Give him a mini belt, or some pouches on the side atleast ala Young Justice
I like a plain looking suit. With a large blue raven looking symbol on his chest and reaching to his shoulders. He should have utility bands (don't know what they are actually called) on his gauntlets. He should also have his batons on his upper back. I liked it when he had his grappling hooks on his forearms.
But this only works if he starts to do less reliance on gadgets and more of what he is good at; hand to hand.
His Young Justice suit with the Pre-DCnU blue bird across the chest and arms, along with the DCnU suit gloves with the scallops would be the best suit ever.
@r3d_rob1n: actually I like the red (and think it looks better)
But this is just opinion, based on what color you like better.
As long as it is not pink,or purple

I much prefer the black and red colour scheme, but the blue and black looked amazing together.
AGREED!
I like the new 52 suit better. For some reason I used to hate it,and the new 52 in general, but then they grew on me.I love all (so far) the new 52 costumes. Nightwing's especially,It is red (I like the red much better and prefer it),it is sleek, practical (unlike the arkham city suit) and it suits him (NPI).
And he keeps it in his guantlets (or on his back)
