    Dick Grayson

Character » Dick Grayson appears in 9476 issues.

As the first Robin, Dick Grayson was the most famous sidekick in comic book history. As he ventured forth on his own, he formed the Teen Titans and became their leader. When the boy became a man, he became the independent hero known as Nightwing.

I like Dick Grayson as Nightwing

    I REALLY DO.

At the same time, I'm tired of Nightwing being sidelined in favor of Batman or Tim Drake ("He's just like Batman!! Ooooh!!"). I want him to be his own man while maintaining the same presence he held as Batman. It seems like Dick-as-Nightwing was portrayed most favorably in the heyday of New Teen Titans. I don't want Nightwing to keep Beast Boy around in order to be great.

    PLEASE DO EXEMPLARY, KYLE HIGGINS.

I totally agree. I think dick took over batman and made his own version, but he its a big enough character to stand out as his own superhero.

I always saw him as Nightwing, even when he was wearing the Bat-suit. However, I also preferred him as the Batman, because it seemed like a logical, natural progression for him. Plus, I really liked the direction Morrison was going with Batman Inc. with Dick staying as Gotham's Batman, and Bruce travelling around the world doing his thing.

I think he did a great job as Batman but to me personally it seemed like he was stepping back into Bruce's shadow after a long time of being out of it as Nightwing he's more his own man

DC Editorial didn't let that happen because they realized how much of a Grayson fan-base existed.
I wouldn't allow for this website to grant you your view of different character's popularities. If that were the case, there would be a depressing number of Storm and Deadpool fans out there.

I wasn't referring to the operators behind this website, but rather its members and their posts. I wasn't knocking or putting down Comicvine.

Ahh. It's just that Dick Grayson is supposed to be the heart and soul of the DC Universe, the one crimefigher everyone respects and trusts. Yes, he's not Batman, but I'm not looking for those exact same attributes in Dick.  Morrison was the first writer to place Dick in situations as darkly bizarre as his origin story. Synder followed the same route, but added ample layers of noir to Dick's exploits. Both writers matched the early weirdo-noir tone of the earliest Batman and Robin adventures (Morrison more so than Snyder). Nightwing shouldn't be Daredevil. He shouldn't be Spiderman (although they do share that whole "heart and soul" role for their respective universes). And he definitely shouldn't be Batman. The only redeeming Nightwing stories written after the tenure of Devin Grayson (who at least put a few notches under Dick's belt) were handled by Peter Tomasi, but I found those to be rather bland.

I like him as Robin, as Nightwing, and it only made sense to me that HE were the one to step up into the role of Batman...

One of the things I hate most about this DC 'relaunch' is that we don't get to say Dick grow into the role he was basically born into and groomed for.....

But you did see it. You did. Unlike what we saw in the Knightfall storyline. First we saw him become his own man, then prove that he could be the man his father was, and now that he returns to Nightwing we can see him solidify Nightwing as a household name.

You might think it's a long shot, but I'd love for this to be the seed that eventually grows into a Nightwing movie or something.

@fodigg: You know, you're right... I guess it was (for me) just too darn short, BUT you're absolutely right.  We saw him as a kid, as a sidekick, as a teen, as a leader WHILE a teen, as  a leader when older, and he DID come into his own...

@Timandm: It was pretty short, but inevitable. And I much prefer wishing there was more than being grateful he's leaving the cowl behind. That we want more means we liked it, and that might mean more fans of Dick Grayson going forward.

I feel that he should have stayed Batman for a while because he IS such a great character on his own. I think it was interesting to see him as Batman and they should have explored that for a while longer.
