    A Different Kind of Help

Nelson Jent chases his friend to apologize and he finds him at an alley getting beat up. Unable to grab his cellphone, he tries to call for help using a nearby payphone and gets a different kind of assistance from what he wanted.

    Plus

Amazing art on this pilot issue. Santolouco displayed his genius with how he drew this comic. The dark environment had uncanny detail and the very messy layout during the action draws the readers into the chaos. The new characters especially the main protagonist is hard not to love, and their shown vulnerability quickly gathers readers' support. The dark and gritty mood that the plot and art carries will make you feel that you aren't reading a DC series. The mystery behind the H Dial is just enough to make the readers stay and wait for the next issue. The different heroes are an added bonus too.

    Minus

New comic book readers might be more confused than compelled with what's occurring in this comic. The H Dial wasn't explained which might be a turn-off for some but it's very likely that the creators will touch on that on the subsequent issues.

    Final Score

As part of the Second Wave of DC's The New 52, I love the fact that this series offers variation from their conventional superhero titles. Carrying a feel that is not for everybody. the brilliant art combined with an unconventional plot makes this a good recommendation to others once you pick it up. 4.5/5 stars.

Today was the start of the Second Wave of New 52 books, beginning with Dial H, Worlds’ Finest, Earth 2, and GI Combat. Dial H is the only one in these books I’ve had a genuine, positive interest in, due to the fact that it appears to be a similar revitalization in the tone of Doom Patrol, Sandman, and Black Orchid from the 80s, and China Mieville’s seemingly genuine optimism and dedication towards reviving the H Dial mythos. For those of you who don’t know, Dial H for Hero is one of the older con...

This is for me the most anticipated book of the second wave and as a very talented writer joins DC, we get delivered a very weird but great comic I will follow for it’s concept is something I wanted to read for a while…….with a darker twist executed well. The issue starts with the introduction of littleville and our “hero” called Nelson (who is way fatter compared how he was depicted in the cover) who is so overweight he had a heart attack before 30! His friend tells him that he has to get himsel...
