Yeah, damn that Johns for creating what seems to be a one-joke character... then hitting us with an origin like that. The softie in me hopes that someday Dex and his owner will be together again, since "gone wrong" and "hurt" are somewhat vague. Until then... rage, kitty,rage!
I think it really says a lot about the abilities of a writer when they can pen such a serious and touching origin to a character that was originally created as a joke. Dex-Starr is easily my favorite out of the non-GL corps and I think that his origin is extremely well written and very touching.
Not THE saddest, but it is a tear jerkier and it shows that just because you're a "Red Lantern of Rage" that you're not just a mindless monster but an actual tragic character with a real story of more than just spitting blood out of your mouth.
