    Origin

Devilance the Pursuer, one of the New Gods of the planet Apokolips, was trained to become an implacable hunter of victims assigned to him by the planet's ruler Darkseid. His duty was to pursue, trap, and destroy his prey, or else he himself would die. Before Darkseid ordered Devilance to hunt down the young gods of New Genesis known as the Forever People, the Pursuer had never failed in a mission.

The Forever People bravely fought Devilance, but they seemed unable to stop him for long by themselves. Finally the Forever People used their Mother Box device to exchange places with the being known as the Infinity Man. Thus the Infinity Man battled Devilance while the Forever People rested in the peaceful, other-dimensional world of Adon, where Infinity Man dwelt.

During their epic struggle, both Infinity Man and Devilance tried to control the latter being's lance. Fantastic amounts of energy were released as the two combatants' powers surged through the lance. Until finally there was an incredible explosion that utterly destroyed the remote Pacific Island on which the battle was taking place, and apparently killed both Infinity Man and the Pursuer. As a result, the Forever People were stranded on Adon with no apparent means of escape. However, both Infinity Man and Devilance survived their clash thanks to their amazing powers.

    52 and Death

Devilance reappeared in the weekly series 52, hunting down Adam Strange, Animal Man and Starfire because he believes they learned the secret of the 52 universes during the Infinite crisis. To the end he terraforms and entire planet to serve as a trap for the heroes. They manage to escape, however, and steal Devilance's spear to use it as a power source for their ship. Devilance pursues and attacks them, but is in the end decapitated by Lobo. His trap-planet is later deactivated by Metron, Lonar and Blue Beetle.
