    Origin

Jim “Devil” Doone an urbane man of action with a glib tongue, a knowing look and a pencil-thin moustache was a former Australian army officer who, with his offsider (friend, partner, sidekick) Desert Head became a soldier of fortune ready to go anywhere in the world and do anything as long as it led to fame, fortune and adventure.

    Creators

Devil Doone was a long running Australian comic strip that appeared not in a newspaper or in a comic book but in Man Junior, a digest companion to Man Magazine, a mild forerunner to Playboy.

Created by writer Ron Carson Gold and artist June Mendoza in 1945 Devil Doone’s adventures became so popular that by 1946 he was given a half size comic book that reprinted his adventures in Man Junior and then new full size comic starting in 1946, with art by Australian artist Hart Amos who stayed with the character until 1971.
