Take the Land that Must be Taken....

I had missed out on this book since I never saw it on the previews list, so I am reading and reviewing it after #3. But, you don't need to have read #1 or anything. This story stands alone. Only, maybe you might want to see the episode with Mustakrakish first....

Tying in to the episode (from Season One, "Dethtroll"), everyone is trying to cover up that Dethklok woke up Mustakrakish in Finland, and then it went on a disastrous rampage, like all good lake trolls do. The book starts out solid and Murderface has some absolutely hilarious lines. All of the characters are in character as far as the show is concerned.

The issue starts to go downhill after the Tribunal begin discussing the cover up and introduce the Mustacoven, a cult that takes care of the trolls. I have to say, their history and how they keep the trolls sleeping is a little ridiculous, even for Metalocalypse standards. It just didn't feel right.

After, we get two different flashback stories. One from Murderface and one from Dr. Rockso. They were good but I bet they would have been amazing in action. On paper, they just moved to slowly.

Finally, the band arrives in Finland for the concert, only to awaken Mustakrakish again, something that would definitely happen on an episode. The story falls off again, like they had to put a quick ending to it. There was a lot left to be desired in the conclusion.

I give this a 3 out of 5. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed it. I totally understand that this comic will never be quite as good as the show. That's the case with a lot of mediums, they often don't translate well to others. I do like the book because I can use my imagination and I do get some good laughs, plus the gore I've come to expect. I'll keep reading Dethklok comics so long as Dethklok vs the Goon marks the low point.

On a side note, I WISH I got that AWESOME Eric Powell cover!!! Now that's METAL!
