    The Abyss Gazes Also... 3

The Good: Whoa. Jock's crazy minimalist artwork is positively AMAZING. This guy was BORN to draw Batman. Everything just looks so great, even though there's so little detail, or something. I don't know what it is, but in some way, his artwork looks thrown together lazily. Yet, this turns out to look epic. It suits Batman to a nail. I don't think he's putting in little effort, it's just his style, and I have nothing bad to say about it whatsoever. And as things spiral downwards, darker and creepi...

A New Contender for the Best Bat-Title 0

Scott Snyder and Jock present an issue so good that it is heartbreaking how these two weren't put on a Batman title much earlier than this.  Snyder simply nails all the characters he uses in this issue, most notable among them being Dick Grayson as our leading Batman. He really plays on the characterization of Dick as someone who prefers to be mobile and really doesn't have the natural inclination to settle down. He doesn't have this homey familiarity with Gotham City that other members of the B...

Detective Comics Is Becoming My Favorite Bat-Comic 5

The Black Mirror story continues and Scott Snyder & Jock are really establishing Dick Grayson as Batman.  The Good I'm really digging this story arc. Every once in a while after reading a comic, I'll sit back and think it over. Snyder and Jock are the perfect combo on this story and I can't imagine it being told as well if one was replaced. I've sometimes wondered what an issue would've been like with a different artist but these two really compliment each other. The gathering of the social ...

    Detective Comics #872 4

Dick manages to infiltrate the Mirror House and gets a step closer to apprehending the man behind the movement, but is the Dark Knight pursuing or is he being played by his prey?   The Good Love, love, love this cover!!!! It's mysterious. It's macabre. It's ominous. And it perfectly reflects this issue. Oh, and yes, that is "THAT" crowbar you're seeing.   With every page turned of this comic one can't help but think that this team was meant to be paired together, and even more so, that they were...

Detective Comics #872, One Of My Favorite Series! 0

Detective Comics #872 continues the second part of the Black Mirror story arc! As Dick Grayson has witnessed a ex-cop murder in #871, he quickly finds out that many of Gotham's Socialites have been taking part in auctions of evil! Needing more information, Dick Grayson goes undercover (using new disguise tech) to see what Gotham's prime socialites due with their time, and let me tell you it ain't good. Located in a old abandon apartment (which has toxic gas) and also tons of crazy bidders that w...

and it's another cult with a creepy leader. 2

I love the idea, the dark and grim setting, and I seriously am in love with the cover of this issue. However, there isn’t something right about this issue, something that’s probably overlooked and something that I never expected from a Gotham City crime-fighting veteran like Dick Grayson. Make no mistake that the scenery is beautifully dark and perfectly fits into a Batman comic title. In my personal opinion, I would have to say that the artwork really took some major attention from the artist...

The story takes a creepy turn. 2

Synopsis: Dick continues to search meanwhile, the past continues to haunt Commissioner Gordon. What's good? God, Scott Synder got this haunted presence with his writing. He's not Grant Morrison, but that's what Synder comes off with The Black Mirror. What seems like an usual case turns into something quite different. The villain and the cliffhanger was the best part of the issue. Another factor I like about this issue is how both stories are happening at the same time. The Commissioner still h...

Awesome Cover and Awesome Story 0

I had originally been very harsh to the idea of the Batman Incorporated story line, but the writers and artists of DETECTIVE COMICS have always delivered the best Batman stories. When I saw the cover for this issue, I was instantly intrigued. The creepy look of that gas mask with a raised crowbar reflected in it spoke to me on the shelf, and I'm glad it did. The crowbar in question is the same one the Joker used to beat Jason Todd (Robin II) to a bloody pulp before blowing him up with explosives...
