Groundbreaking panels.
The only attraction I had for this issue was the art but that alone was not a saving grace.
But I can't deny the creativity displayed by J.H. Williams. The choices hes made when laying out this "Elegy" storyline has been mind blowing. It really challenges my perspective on comic book story telling. If Rucka had a say in how the panels were laid out then he obviously deserves some accolades as well but I have a sneaking suspicion that this was exclusively J.H. Williams. There's a part where Batwoman faces off against one of Alice's henchwomen and I really had to slow down and absorb how much detail was squeezed onto a single page. It felt like an entire 10 minute fight scene occurred in lightning panels. It was very cool.
I also can't deny how much I was digging on this punker chick turned super heroine. It's a lot of fun to see a cute girl with tattoos and a hot bob haircut fight crime in the bat family. I think that's the appeal for me and it's what will make me pick up a Batwoman comic if anything.
